Women are fed up about the lack of nude bra colors. "What'??s Your Nude," a new campaign launched on Facebook is mobilizing women fed up over the lack of diversity in bra manufacturing. On February 1, campaign organizers are urging women to contact bra makers and retailers and demand greater representation across new and existing lingerie collections.

The brainchild of Tara Raines, African-American psychologist and consumer who has spent years searching stores for her shade of nude. She decided to launch the campaign when she learned recently that for more than 30 years, many of her family members and friends have been dying widely-sold buff and blush-colored bras brown to create darker hued nude bras, an effort that the majority of lingerie companies have refused to undertake.

'??Women of color have tremendous spending power in the U.S. and it'??s absurd to think that in 2012 we are essentially disenfranchised when they shop for lingerie,'? said Raines. '??It'??s my hope that this campaign will drive not only awareness, but swift action by bra makers.'?

To participate in the campaign, women of color should:

  • '??Like'? the '??What'??s My Nude'? Facebook page (www.facebook.com/morebrownbras)
  • RSVP for the '??What'??s Your Nude'? public event on Facebook
  • Contact their preferred bra manufacturer or bra retailer on February 1 via phone, email, social media or snail mail.
  • Follow the campaign on Twitter and spread the word by using the #WhatsYourNude hashtag

Contact information for select bra makers and retailers is available on the campaign'??s Facebook event page. More than 250 women have already signed up in advance of the event in support of the effort.

Since the announcement of the campaign, campaign participants have championed a handful of companies that do offer brown bras, including Target and Kmart. Participants are also encouraged to use social media to highlight bra manufacturers and retailers that are committed to diversity.
