Every women needs a place for herself, and sorry that doesn't always mean the kitchen. Men have their own sanctuary's with their man cave, so isn't it time this trend reached us moms! For the first time ever, Boston magazine'??s Design Home will feature a 922 square foot sanctuary called the '??Ultimate Moms Retreat.'?
The multi-purpose woman'??s oasis, conceptualized and constructed by builder Eugene Mattie, will occupy Design Home'??s entire fourth floor and will boast feminine flourishes crafted in collaboration with KISS 108-FM '??Matty in the Morning'? radio personality Lisa Donovan and interior designer Vani Sayeed.
Mattie is no stranger to designing with family in mind. Nearly every nook of Design Home'??s spacious interior incorporates insightful details that promote family togetherness '?? from the working fireplaces located in the first floor family room, screened-in porch and kitchen; to the mudroom designed with custom '??children'??s cubbies'? so siblings have their own space to put their belongings; to the open spiral staircase, located in the heart of the home, that stretches from the basement to the cupola, allowing parents to listen in on their home'??s happenings from any floor. But when it came to designing a dream retreat for women, Mattie asked Boston magazine to help him identify a modern mom who could partner in conceptualizing the space.
Design Home'??s '??Ultimate Moms Retreat'? will include both a multi-purpose fitness room with Pilates studio and meditation room, and a lounge including a custom entertainment center and wine bar.
Here is some more information about each room:
Sitting Area Furniture:
The couch is comfy and deep for lounging from Restoration Hardware and is flanked by an eclectic pair of retro inspired chairs, with large ottoman in a cowhide in the middle from Artefact. The writing table is clean lined and made from reclaimed wood from 60 Nobscot and is juxtaposed with Philippe Starck Louis ghost chair from Design Within Reach. The window seat features a selection of cushions from Company C.
Yoga and Pilates Studio:
This room is again tone on tone with the same color palate and a beautiful clam blue rug from Dover with a mediation table on it from 60 Nobscot in reclaimed wood. The Pilates equipment is provided by Lisa Johnson owner of Modern Pilates and features a SPX Max Deluxe Reformer and yoga mats and accessories from Merrithew Health & Fitness.
As we walk into the yoga and Pilates space the open hall will have a collection of paintings by Nancy Colella and Tina Watson inspired by the beach, water and the Norwell landscape.
Colors will be very calming, with tone one tone pale blue/grey on walls accented by natural woods and shades of whites. Cushions and throws provide splashes of color throughout.
The interior design will incorporate a palette of sea blues, cool whites and neutral tones at Lisa'??s request, a combination of oversized and palladium-style windows and glass-paned doors allowing natural light to penetrate every room, and the hallway connecting the Sanctuary'??s two spaces will be lined with the works of South Shore artists.
