In between Fashion Week and Toy Fair, Momtrends had the chance to check out a new series by Total Beauty called the Total Beauty Digital Salon Blogger Lounge. Held at the Empire Hotel, bloggers had the chance to get the scoop about everything beauty from celebrity makeup artist Jill McKay. Here's what we learned from the beauty lounge:
Makeup Brushes 101:
NYX Cosmetics expert makeup artist Jill McKay stated that you need high-quality brushes, which doesn't always mean that it is most expensive. To know if a brush is good, you can hold it on the back of your hand and if there is a little bend and if it falls flat it will not be good when you are applying makeup.
The must have-brushes are a foundation brush for a base, an angled liner (triangle head) that is great for eyebrows and a small brush to cover under-eye circles and blemishes.
Additionally, brushes should be washed twice a week since bacteria can grow and affect the skin. Jill recommends using brush cleaners and shampoo to make this even easier.
How Does Makeup Last All Day and Not Crease:
Oil is the killer of all makeup. Jill suggests toning the skin before applying makeup to take away oil and to use primer to create a canvas so the makeup won't budge. After you apply foundation, Jill suggests applying translucent power. If you have oily skin, apply an extra layer of power (and not extra foundation) - especially in the t-zone.
Tips to Freshen Up the Skin:
Jill likes to take some foundation and apply it lightly to the skin. She also suggests blush that should be applied to the apples of the cheeks to make the skin look fresh and new.
