NYC Marathon Training for Team Baby Buggy

Why did I run 16 miles today? Because I'm training for the NYC Marathon (11/6) and in the process raising funds for Baby Buggy. For the past two years I've been working with Jessica Seinfeld and her no-profit group to raise funds and awareness about Baby Buggy. They get gently used baby gear and clothing for children of all ages to New York's neediest families. This year Baby Buggy is celebrating 10 years of work and as a little gift (ok, big gift) I signed on to join the marathon team and raise $2500 for this worthy charity.

While I love running, I forgot about the dedication it takes to train for a marathon. My first and last marathon was 11 years and two kids ago. Believe me when I tell you I didn't sign on for this because I was bored and needed something to do. I did it because I have been blessed in so many ways I am always striving for ways to give back.

There have been many early Sunday am alarm clocks going off so me and my training partners can get in the mileage around work, family schedules and the general business of being a mom. But when I think about what the donations I raise can do for NYC families, well, it makes getting up and going a little easier.

I've seen firsthand the organizations that rely on Baby Buggy to give a cash-strapped family a much-needed stroller or how much it means to get a pretty warm winter jacket for a little girl who is a new refugee families and just found her way to New York from Africa. This organization is a lean, mean efficient machine. I know the dollars I give and raise will be put to good use. So I hope you'll join me in this worthy cause.

Wooohoo! 48 days to go. And I need your help! Here's how I see it. Each post I write is viewed by about 2500 readers. If each of you just sign on for $1 I'm there. If you are feeling more generous we'll be able to change the lives of even more need families. And the best part? I'll do all the running for you. There's no need for you to lace up and pound out 26.2 miles.

And a huge thank you to my sponsors in kind. The North Face is my unofficial footwear sponsor. I've been training in the single track. New Balance provided me with all my training apparel including my favorite running shorts the NP.
