While I'm sure the Nokia press conference a few weeks ago was informative and lovely, the best way to experience a fabulous new phone is in the company of chic people in the know, with a glass of wine and a cone of tater tots in hand.
And fabulous, sexy new phones they certainly are.
After arriving at the ridiculously swanky Center 548, all the way west on 22nd street, I was confronted with two long lines. Like down the block long. Being a born and bred New Yorker, I marched all the way to the front of the "Invited Guests" line and asked when I could go in. They immediately checked me off a list, gave me my two id bracelets (one to enter and one to drink) and sent me to wait for the elevator. (Moral of the story? Don't assume that you have to wait on those long lines!)
The followed the craziest elevator ride on earth...I actually thought that I was being transported to a parallel universe.
And these phones really belong on one.
Sleek and light, with wireless charging capabilities and a new kind of touchscreen technology that enables you to use your phone while wearing gloves or by scratching it with your fingernail, these new Lumia phones are a smartphone users dream. The Nokia Lumia 820 is a stylish, mid-range smartphone that delivers high-end performance in a compact package. The Nokia Lumia 820 has the same unibody look and feel as the high end Lumia smartphones, and comes with an exchangeable shell design that offers wireless charging capabilities and is available in a range of colors.
The Nokia Lumia 920 is the flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone, including the latest advances in Nokia PureView imaging innovation. Using advanced floating lens technology, the camera in the Nokia Lumia 920 is able to take in five times more light than competing smartphones without using flash, making it possible to capture clear, bright pictures and video indoors and at night. It also compensates for hand movement while the photo is being taken. The Nokia Lumia 920 is also the first smartphone with built-in wireless charging.
If the funkiness of the phone weren't enough, Nokia also announced a range of wireless charging accessories and partnerships--The Fatboy Recharge Pillow on which you can rest your phone to recharge, the JBL PowerUP wireless charging docking station and new Nokia Wireless Charging Plates were also unveiled in a bunch of bright colors.
Nokia also unveiled partnerships with Virgin Atlantic and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf which will offer consumers wireless charging facilities while getting their coffee or sitting in an airport lounge.
