I was fortunate enough to attend the 2012 Healthy Child, Healthy World 4th annual Mom on a Mission Awards and Fundraising Event. As a mother, especially one that makes every effort to live a green and natural lifestyle, being in a room filled with like-minded individuals, was fulfilling, empowering, not to mention, inspiring.

This year's Mom on a Mission Awards ceremony was held in NYC's downtown Dream Hotel. Actress, Kelly Rutherford emceed the ceremony and her sense of humor and sincerity only brought light to an issue that is often gloomy. Ms. Rutherford shared that although she grew up in what many would call an, eco savvy way, her passion for green and natural living exploded when she became a mother.
The Mom on a Mission Award is given to a mom that has taken on an environmental issue that has led to positive change. The 2012 Mom on a Mission recipient is Victoria Di Lorio.
Victoria is a recognized expert in sustainability and green design strategies relating to the built environment. Victoria launched the Healthy Home demonstration project to raise the bar on sustainable design by focusing on healthier indoor environments. Since 2005, Victoria has volunteered her talent to Healthy Child Healthy World. She lives in Chicago with her husband Anthony and their two children.
Also in attendance was director, Abby Epstein, of the life-altering movie, The Business of Being Born which she co produced with TV talk-show host, turn executive producer, Ricki Lake. The Business of Being Born is a movie about you, your baby and the choices you may not know you have when it comes to your birth experience. It is a must-see movie for every mother-to be whether first time or not.
