5 Essential Kitchen Gadgets

I spend a good part of my life in the kitchen...cooking, prepping and making sure that everyone in the family is fed and happy.
Because my kitchen is a small Manhattan kitchen, I don't have the space to store all of the fun gadgets that I'd really like. That means each kitchen tool I get better be able up work hard!

1. KitchenAid Stand Mixer.
I got this as a wedding present almost 10 years ago, and, one minor repair later, it's still going strong. I bake a lot, and this workhorse cuts down my prep time by at least half every time.

2. Good Knives.
I have a lot of knives that I love, but I was really excited to get the new Wusthof 7-inch Chai Duo Knife. It has a super-wide blade, with a cool curved tip...and is surprisingly lightweight. I also loved that the blade has a curvy profile - making it easy to quickly mince, chop, dice, and slice a myriad of ingredients by employing an effortless "rocking" motion on cutting boards. Now I just need to work on my knife skills :)

3. Strawberry Huller.
My kids eat insane amounts of berries. After countless hours spent cutting the green tops off strawberries and wasting half the fruit in the process, I discovered my newest favorite gadget--the Chef'n Strawberry Huller . Point, twist, pull and done.

4. Immersion Blender.
I used to burn all of my fingers and make a huge mess pureeing steaming pots of soup by pouring and blending, until I discovered my Braun immersion blender and never looked back.

5. Basket Steamer.
I have a few different sizes of these to fit into different pots for healthy vegetable steaming. Because the vegetables don't sit in the water, so many fewer nutrients are lost and you are less likely to over steam. When my kids were first starting to eat solid foods, I used these all the time to steam whatever new foods they were trying...everything from apples and pears to carrots and broccoli.
