I love a good celebration - the chance to kick-back relax and have a great time with friends and family members. The planning process can be stressful - deciding on the right colors, look and feel for a celebration without feeling to overdone. I recently learned more about party decor and the vast array of invitation options at a fun party hosted by Finestationery.com and Celebrations.com.
At this event, Shawn Rabideau, founder of Shawn Rabideau Events & Design, a full-service event production & lifestyle company, used themes from the runway to feature five separate parties, around five celebrations including Mother'??s Day, an Engagement Party, a Bridal Shower, a 40th Birthday and a 4th of July to remember. Drawing on the fashion trend, I loved how Shawn utilized some of our favorite looks of the season including color blocking, country chic and accenting with deep purple.
5 Pretty Ways To Organize Your Jewelry
I admit - I'm guilt. Despite my best efforts, my "jewelry drawer" has become a tangled mess of necklaces, bracelets and earrings. This cluttered collection not only makes it hard to see what I have, but difficult to untangle the pieces I do want to wear! This summer, I'm ...read more

Pool season is almost here! I can't wait to relax, read a book, and sip a cocktail while lazily drifting in an oversized float. (Just kidding, I have two toddlers--but a swim mama can dream, right?). If you've got a staycation planned, check out this year's coolest jumbo pool ...read more
Crystal Clear and Pristine: Pool-Cleaning Tips
Tropical Storm Isaiah gave us quite the midsummer surprise here in the suburbs of New York City. We just got our power back on after a whole week of darkness! With trees down, debris everywhere, and lots of uncertainty, one thing we forgot to check on: our above ground Intex ...read more
The room at the Westin was stunning (to say the least) as Shawn told me how to have with decorating by "using what you have." Adding, "parties should be fun, and not expensive." He noted that using everyday items like glassware can "transform a table" and that people shouldn't be afraid to use seasonal items like fruits, plants and vegetables as a part of their table decor. Walking through the various tables, I loved the use of color and pieces from nature like fun flowers and plants. One of my favorites was the Summer-Tablescape complete with a DIY banner and cute stripy straws. There was also the fun birthday party theme for a 40 year old bash. Shawn first picked a colorful floral piece from FineStationery.com with its gorgeous pops of color that added inspiration for the rest of your party. Great tip - start with the invitation and then pick your theme and colors from there! For this mini-party this included a lot of florals and bright colors.
While looking through FineStationary I loved checking out their gorgeous line that included invitations that can be used for any event from weddings to baby showers. They also have a fun stationary including a cute line for kids with fun symbols for any interest.
Parties don't have to be a lot of work - you can easily use what you have in a fun and creative way that starts with inspiration from playful and colorful invitations.
To throw a celebration that your guests will remember Shawn also suggests the following:
1. When decorating, take advantage of seasonal flowers, fruits and vegetables.
2. Create a simple but well-rounded bar with premade signature drink, white wine beer, soda and juices.
3. Have a readily accessible summer amenities basket for your guests. Fill it with towels, bug repellent, sunscreen and bandaids.
4. Lighting is a must! Hanging lanterns, string lights and votives create the perfect mood. Consider candles if you have a pool.
5. Keep your guests cool by periodically walking around with trays of refrigerated, rolled wash clothes scented with eucalyptus, rose or lavender.
