To me when someone delivers an artistic display in a world of boring and benign, this is a moment worth noting. When the shelves are lined with plastic compacts and dull powder dishes, it's nice to see the elegance and thought put into the holiday offerings at Clarins. This year's two new products (aptly called the Odyssey collection) embody the majestic radiance of a Greek goddess with both matte and metallic. The most beautiful in the line is the new Odyssey Face Palette, a shimmering, lightweight pressed powder that delivers a goddess glow to face, neck and décolleté. The Eye Quartet Mineral Palette Odyssey eye shadows light up all eyes in bronze, beige and taupe. The creamy golden highlights can be applied wet to enliven eyes with a sparkle.
What's lovely about these powders is the matte gold medallion compact they each come in. Hidden in red velvet bags known to Clarins followers, the gold compacts are adorned with engraved edges. Even the powders themselves are scrolled in glorious fashion, with the first swipe of the face powder offering a bit of gold-tone sheen.
This is beautiful beauty. Inside and out.
The Clarins holiday collection is available this month in Bloomingdale'??s and at clarins.com

I finally put away the ghostly Halloween decorations and I literally put away the last piece of Thanksgiving Day pecan pie, so bring on Christmas. At least in our house, this is a big time of the year to deck the halls. And one of my all time favorite traditions is our Christmas tree. Even the very scent of pine trees in July jingles my bells. I just love our tree. And yes, it's real.
Whether or not you trim the tree, Thymes has the most amazing Frasier Fir collection of products that really brings the outside to the inside. Much like a cinnamon candle or a peppermint stick latte from Starbucks, they just scream holidays to me.
Triple-milled for creamy lather, the all-vegetable bar soap combines moisturizing glycerin and exfoliating crushed apricot kernels to cleanse, moisturize and refine hands while lifting the spirits with crisp, just-cut forest fragrance. No joke. The second you start lathering, you quite literally see the forest for the trees. And you can't stop there. You just have to moisturize with their hand lotion (which comes also in a convenient set with the hand wash), a rich formula that tends to dry skin and you need to bring your Christmas tree wherever you go.
Thymes Frasier Fir collection is available at thymes.com.
