Beauty & Beyond: Favorite Beauty Finds

Spa Essentials - high-res

My daughter turned five last Friday. Five. Years. Old. Seems like just yesterday I was screaming obscenities to my husband for her to get out of my body. And now I've been blessed with her in my life for five years. *sigh* Where does time go? Although it seems to stand still when you'??re trying to get them out of your bodies, doesn'??t it.

Anyway, before she went off to celebrate at school with her friends (Dunkin'?? Munchkins in tow), we curled her hair and she asked if she could wear lip gloss. I said yes. Not because I think this is going to be part of our new daily routine, but because it'??s a special day.

As girls get older they want to develop their own beauty rituals. Special makeup for special occasions. Washing their pretty faces before bed. Putting on SPF in the AM. Things that are just for them. Not for mommy. This is why I think thatOttilie & Lulu is so adorably important. Considering 80 percent of damage done to skin happens before the age of 17, this brand offers spa essentials for healthy pampering of tweens. Beautiful sheer gift bags full of sweetly scented products really give them something to call their own, somewhere between Johnson'??s Baby Shampoo and L'??Oreal Paris.

The line has a shampoo, detangling conditioner, body wash, body lotion and facial wipes. The one I'??m most impressed with is the SPF daily moisturizer. Imagine starting your girl on the road to understanding how important sun protection is. (Confession: when I was a tween, you could find me in the back yard, covered in baby oil, sunning myself...pure genius). All the products are free of the nasties (parabens, PABA, etc.) and have great ingredients like avocado, aloe, green tea, pomegranate, etc. Anti-oxidants to protect, vitamins to enrich, and botanicals to soothe.

This is a great way to get your tween on the road to beauty that matters (read: skin and hair care, not just makeup and bows). Of course, I'??m not ready for my dear one to be a tween. Let'??s take one year at a time. Minus the screaming.

Last year launched this hair treatment that boasted 15 benefits (think: adds shine, detangles, prevents frizz, UV protection, soothes your scalp, etc). It came in a sexy black bottle with smooth curves and bold writing. It was called'?¦wait for it'?¦black 15in1 Miracle Treatment. Didn'??t see that creative moniker coming, did you. It had a fast and furious following. Well now, this cult favorite has an extended family. Meet black 15-in-1 Twice a Week Miracle Hair Shampoo and Conditioner. These don'??t do 15 things. They clean and condition, but they do it well. So well, that you only need to wash/condition twice a week. Huh?

Designed to be used'?¦wait for it'?¦twice a week (duh'?¦once again), this combo relies on a mixture of Sunflower Seed Extract, Cashmere Keratin and Keravis (a vegetable protein for revitalizing hair follicles and scalp). They also boast one of my favorite do-it-alls Argan Oil, which nourishes hair strands and helps reduce frizz and flyaways. This no build-up system falls between a traditional shampoo and conditioner and a hair treatment.

Here'??s the kicker'??they claim to help you maintain hairstyles for up to four days because they enhance the hair'??s natural qualities. I cannot go more than two day without washing my hair. But for some, I would say this is hair care simplified big time.

Fresh launched a new lip treatment last month. Get it. I have nothing more to say. OK, I'??ll say a few things...

It'??s called the Sugar Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy.

Now I'??ve been a fan of Boston-based Fresh since they started in a little shop in the South End. Today they'??re an empire, and amazing products like this are precisely why.

This lip treatment keeps your lips moisturized for 24 hours. And I'??m not lying. It also has anti-aging ingredients that repair dryness and help smooth creases around your lips. Fresh has pioneered the use of sea fennel extract, a coastal plant that has wrinkle-reduction effects. This treatment also boasts hyaluronic filling spheres that give your mouth a smooth appearance and hydration. An ultra-nourishing complex of cupuaçu butter, plum seed oil, and passionflower seed oil helps to hydrate, repair, and restore suppleness.

I put it under my lipstick, and I keep one by my night stand to kiss my lips good night.

When they did testing, they found that 100% noticed lips were more moisturized, nourished, supple, and softer, and felt that it repaired the lips from dryness. That'??s everyone. How often is everyone happy?

Fresh'??s Sugar Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy is available at and at Fresh stores for $25.
