You have to balance things in life. This is not a news flash. It's more of a reminder. Balance is the only way to have a healthy somewhat less hectic life.
Where this sage advice fits into your day runs the gamut. From the superficial outside (Coco Chanel said take off one accessory before you leave the house - I call that bling balance) to the more intimate inside (balance "me" time with "them" time to avoid feeling overwhelmed). Sometimes it might mean balancing OJ on a tray you're taking to your sick kid, while your dog is under your feet, the phone is ringing and the UPS guy is at the door.
Of course we all strive to practice a balanced diet. But sometimes between those fruits, veggies and lean proteins, you need a little pick-me-up. Your hand reaches for a candy bar or an energy drink. Well, put that down and keep reading.
In select retailers this month and nationwide in early 2013, Balance Bar launches its Dark line. I've always loved their high energy bars (the yogurt honey peanut is my personal fave), so I was thrilled to hear they're offering three new dark chocolate cravings - dark chocolate crunch, dark chocolate coconut and dark chocolate peanut. Beyond the taste, which is supremely decadent for a energy bar, this is the first line to have the well-respected Rainforest Alliance certified seal for using cocoa made from farms recognized by this organization.
They're super high in protein (13 grams), certified gluten-free, and have antioxidants like Vitamins A, C and E and four healthy grams of fiber per bar. As with all Balance Bars, they follow the 40-30-30 principle of the percentages of calories from carbs, quality protein and dietary fat. This scientifically proven formula stabilizes (achem...you might say, balances) blood sugar levels for balanced energy. You'll also stay full feeling longer.
Now on to the taste. I don't like sweets. *gasp* I know. You're shocked. I'm more of a dark chocolate fan, so for me these were tasty snack alternatives that give me a little indulgence. They're flavorful without a kick in the sweet teeth. The dark chocolate peanut version is topped with full-sized peanuts, making it my favorite of the bunch for a go-to somewhat crunchy snack.
Now not only can I balance my career with being a great mom, my body on a sky-high pair of heels, and the right blend of shabby with chic during errands, I'm also snacking better with Balance.
Balance Bars Dark line are available now at shopbalance.com for 15-bar boxes priced at $16.49 and will be available in early 2013 for $1.49 per bar.
