Are you looking for a vacation destination that provides equal opportunities for relaxation and FUN? If so, I have the place for you. The five star, all-inclusive Iberostar Playa Mita resort is located about an hour outside of Puerto Vallarta in the beautiful Riveria Nayarit region which is on the Pacific side of Mexico. I visited Mexico twice before, but had never been to that side, so I was particularly excited about this trip. And let me tell you...It did not disappoint.

Riviera Nayarit feels almost unspoiled as much of the area is still undeveloped. So, instead of an endless row of hotels, you see an endless expanse of beautiful sandy beach. Being a newer property, Iberostar Play Mita has a squeaky clean feel without being devoid of character. While it's a rather large resort, it isn't overwhelming. In fact, I had a great time simply wandering around and exploring the grounds when I first arrived. My room directly faced the ocean and was at the opposite side of the lobby.

While there weren't a ton of children out and about, there were definitely some families there and I got the sense that this was one of those properties that would work for both families AND couples. In fact, if a family vacation is on your agenda, you should take note that kids stay free at Iberostar properties if you book your trip by June 30, 2014!

As I meandered down the winding paths, I passed the championship golf course designed by the one and only Greg Norman, the Nopal buffet restaurant which serves a most excellent breakfast, a kids' splash park with a, GET THIS, life size pirate ship, the infinity pool and right on up into a posh bar overlooking the beach. If you're there for romance, that rooftop bar is where you want to end up in the evening. The sun setting over the water is a sight not to be missed! And after you enjoy said sunset, you're going to want to eat. My two favorite restaurants were La Bahia, which served a mighty tasty steak and Tsuba, the Japanese restaurant. I'm a sushi fanatic and I walked away from that meal with a smile on my face, so that says a lot.

I was able to tear myself away from the lure of the rooftop bar, I thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in my beautiful oceanfront junior suite. Sitting on the balcony and sipping on a cold beverage from my well stocked fridge was heaven on earth for this harried mama. In fact, the entire Iberostar Playa Mita experience was just the relaxing experience I was looking for. Stay tuned for my next post where I'll share some of the fun activities you can do at the Iberostar Playa Mita resort, as well as excursion opportunities! Until next time...
