A few weeks ago I introduced you to a new brand that is adding lots of fun to Girls' Night Out--Smirnoff Light Sorbet. The campaign is meant to remind us all to connect with friends and fun. As I've gotten older, the responsibilities have piled up. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the abundance of opportunities that are on my calendar--I just have to remember to make time for play.
A solution is a good getaway weekend with my girlfriends. Over the past two years, I've set aside a summer weekend to connect with my favorite women involved in blogging and social media. Yes, I have "civilian" friends (those who don't blog, tweet, or otherwise post) and I love them dearly. But the group of ladies shown above have seen this business grow from 500 pageviews a month to 100,000. When I need to vent about taking multi-tasking to the extreme, they understand like no one else. They have grown businesses to and can uniquely grasp the time demands on me.
We center the trips around the BlogHer conference, but to be frank, we don't spend much time at the conference. Instead the best ideas are vetted and dreamed up over cocktails and late-night conversations. There are bold business initiatives that we form during these trips. But the small things matter just as much. We talk about best parenting practices, making time for romance and how some SAHM don't really get what it means to work from home (the rolled eyes when we say we are too busy to volunteer for the bake sale).
Having women who 100% understand the pace I keep the the dreams I have is a pretty awesome thing. I won't forget the four of us squeezing into a room made for two to save on our travel budget (allowing us a better budget for meals!). Finding an amazing spot for veggie burgers. Taking a long run along the ocean and scheming how to keep fighting the good fight when it comes to aging. A great trip is a sum of the parts. The small moments matter.

The Best Overnight French Toast Recipe
We've hit the winter lull--that lengthy stretch of season with no plans, no parties, nothing to do, and nowhere to go. I have to admit that at first, I welcomed the quiet obligation-free weekends of January. After the nonstop hustle-bustle pace of November and December, my family ...read more
