Let me tell you about some videos that saved my sanity--four out of the past seven days at the beach have been STORMY. Not a gentle mist that allows one to walk on the beach or visit the playground. No. This was real rain. Thankfully, I packed My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics: Preschool Stories a set of DVDs that turned out to be a treat for the entire family.
We don't do much video or TV watching. I save up media time for emergencies. And this was an emergency. We needed entertainment and boy did this set deliver. Scholastic's DVD series is a treasure trove of classic stories made into mini movies. The collection is geared to preschoolers, but has a universal appeal--all of the stories are so gorgeous when they come to life on screen.
The collection is packed in a neatlittle case that holds seven DVDs. Some are "live" with actors, such as Corduroy (the Don Freeman classic), others are animated and narrated by a famousactors, such as Shrinking Violet which is narrated by CalistaFlockhart. There are stories from my past such as Harold and the Purple Crayon and modern tales, such as Knuffle Bunny. Basically, your child is bound to love many of these stories. They run short about 15 minutes and under, and promote literacy--you can had have the words appear on screen as the story unfolds.
This is a true delight and makes a perfect item to keep at Grandma's house or to pack on a vacation trip that just might have some rain. This is one media investment you won't regret. Buy My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics on Amazon for $29.99.
