So today I listened to Josh Dorfman, the Lazy Environmentalist. He was sharing ideas with a group of Mommmy Bloggers on way to save the planet. I came away with a scary statistic. About 80% of what Americans throw away is recyclable yet our rate of actual recycling is just 38%. Yikes. (To read a full recap of the call check out Rockin' Mama here)
I am inspired to share a handful of toys that take on the paper recycling challenge. Did you know recycling 1 ton of paper can save 17 trees, 2 barrels of oil and 4100 kilowatts of energy ? Consider these gifts to your kids and to our future.
Cardboardesignkids. Eco friendly, chemical free, recycled and recyclable--we play with these toys incessantly. My downstairs neighbor has The Rocket and that thing is sturdy! Our kids scramble in and out of it for hours pretending to fly to the moon. ($77). The complete collection included houses, lemonade stands and castles.
Teach your kids about recycling with a Discovery Paper Recycling Studio from the DiscoveryChannelStore.com ($24.95) This kit is part science, part craft. You learn the history of paper making while also getting to experiment with embedding objects and painting with pulp. Ideal for a rainy day activity for ages 5 and up.
