Bohemian-Inspired Maxi Dresses

Throughout most of the year I’m a jeans kinda gal. Jeans and a bulky sweater in the winter. Jeans and a tee in the spring. Jeans and light layers in the fall… But in the summer, I trade out my beloved denim almost entirely for maxi dresses. I love a good maxi dress because it’s fitted and loose in all the right places, and effortlessly stylish.

Right now, my favorite Maxi dress is this bohemian-inspired number from Wayf. It’s got a hippie-chic vibe that’s equal parts easy going and prettily polished. This peach hue and floral print is feminine, the bottom pleats fall beautifully, and the bell sleeves make it ideal for rooftop nights in NYC.

Better yet, a maxi like this requires minimal accessories. I let the dress speak for itself, and kept it simple with stud earrings and simple wedge platform shoes. My favorite accessory? The delicious glass of rosé wine!

I’ve rounded up a few more bohemian-inspired maxi dresses to live in all summer… From backyard cookouts to evening rooftop soirees, these styles will keep you looking and feeling breezy and cool.

Doll and Me Matching Outfits

Ever since I fell in love with one of the original American Girl dolls, Samantha, many moons ago, the brand has held a place in my heart. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to introduce it to my daughter when the time came. We started with a Bitty Baby and have continued on with favorites like Melody Ellison and Gabriella McBride. So, when they released their latest girl, Z Yang, I knew my baby girl would adore her too. You see she, more often than not, plays model for me and and my camera. While she loves saying cheese, she’s also fascinated by my equipment, often asking if she can try taking her own photos when we’re done. And being that Z Yang’s storyline revolves around her filmmaking, she was just the right birthday present for my budding shutterbug’s fifth birthday!

And what better way to celebrate than with an American Girl Doll and me matching outfits photo shoot? Well, they’re outfits aren’t so much matching as coordinating. We chose a Burt’s Bees striped tank and tie dye leggings look in navy and pink that picked up on those same colors in Z Yang’s outfit. And both girls are rockin’ some seriously sparkly shoes, my daughter’s being Freshly Picked moccasins. There’s no reason a girl can’t be sparkly AND comfy. Am I right? And speaking of comfort…

One of the reasons we love Burt’s Bees Baby so much is because it’s made out of their special organic cotton which is perfect for summer’s sweltering temps. Not only is it ridiculously soft, but it lasts. We all know how much us mamas have to wash our kiddo’s clothes, especially in the summertime, and it’s great to know that the Burt’s Bees Baby organic cotton is up for the job. Plus, it’s earth friendly. Now I can feel great about putting my kids in clothes that are kind to our planet and they can play the day away in comfort! You can bet there was a lot of playing in these doll and me matching outfits!

Masala Baby: Global Style for Summer’s Adventures

Hippie meets preppy. That’s how I’d describe the Masala Baby summer collection. It’s colorful, cute, playful, trendy, and stylish. Beachy-chic and totally adorable.

Masala Baby is a baby and kids lifestyle brand that combines the rich cultural influences of India with a contemporary aesthetic that crosses borders effortlessly. With tasseled coverups and caftans, seersucker linen shorts and dresses, and bold bubble, the line looks and feels global, and every style manages to strike the perfect balance between inspirational and practical; functional and fashionable.

I dressed my littles in Masala Baby this past weekend on our strawberry picking adventure and our first seasonal beach outing, and they looked breezy and cool.

How handsome does my boy look in this Sumba Organic Tee? He looks ready for the islands when paired with a pair of turquoise Old Navy shorts and matching slip-on sneakers.

Here he is again in a Neat Shirt Gajah  and striped seersucker shorts?

My babe is a beachy keen vision in the Baby Sanur One-Piece. The look is ever sweeter with this Masala Baby beach hat, but girlfriend has a mind of her own and wouldn’t wear it.

We’re loving the entire collection. Nicole’s daughter recently rocked a Masala Baby caftan too…. and we’re thrilled to learn they’re expanding their mommy and me options! We can’t wait to twin at the pool soon!

Sweet Summer Dresses for Girls

There is something about summertime that makes me want to wear free flowing dresses all season long. And my baby girl is no different. She plays “dress up” all day long with her favorite frocks. I’m talking some serious outfit changes, multiple times a day people. Haha! So, I try to pick up sweet summer dresses to add to her “try on” stash whenever I can. And being that she’s a fan of variety, they can’t all be investment pieces. Budget-friendly summer dresses are where it’s at and Target, for instance, has a great selection of them!

Beauty and the Beast dress

In fact, I picked up a couple sweet dresses in late spring that I’m loving for summer too. And they both happen to be shades of blue. I don’t know what it is about oceanic hues, but I’m always drawn to them, particularly in the warm weather months. Plus, blue looks great with so many accent colors, like pink, for example, but I digress… Now that we’ve talked about color, let’s talk prints. I’m all about prints this season and Beauty and the Beast is still a big deal in our house, so this toile printed dress was a home run! As was this palm print dress. My little lady loves a good palm print as much as her mama. Bwah!

And every sweet summer dress needs accessories to complement it. My mini me saw these heart shaped Rainbow OPTX sunglasses in my bag and snagged them for herself. What girl can resist hearts? Frankly, I think my sunnies look even better on her than they do on me. C’est la vie. Haha!

So, are sweet summer dresses for girls on your shopping list this season too? If so, head on over to Target. I daresay you’ll find plenty to choose from! And for even more kids’ style ideas, check out our take on mommy and me wellies!

4 Rules of Wearing Florals

Did you catch my peony post a few weeks ago?… I rounded up a bunch of peony-printed dresses and accessories and home decor for your spring-shopping pleasure. What I didn’t share though, are the rules to wearing floral fashions.

I like to wear beautiful bloom prints all throughout spring and summer, but I admit that styling them can be a bit of a challenge. Sometimes florals are too, well, flowery… (Does that even make sense?! I think it does!)

The key to the seasonal floral look is keeping it fresh (get it?), and styling it in a subtle way. That’s why I always abide by these “rules.”

Keep It Muted and Understated: I’m not saying bright florals are a no-go. But if you’re tentative about testing the waters with floral frocks and skirts and tops, I’d suggest dipping your toes with more muted hues. This Wayf dress called my name because it’s subtle and soft and feminine without being too girlie. I like that it’s pink, but not too pink, and neutral but still colorful. The midi length is on trend and the cut is flattering and slimming.

Less Is More: Keep the accessories to a minimum. Let the floral pattern speak volumes, and avoid too many other visual distractions. A few bracelets, a simple pendant, a ring, and delicate earrings–pick one or two and then practice discretion.

Blend Feminine and Edgy: The slight flutter sleeve on this dress is my favorite detail because it’s lovely, and provides slight movement. Balance out the daintiness with a leather bomber or denim jacket to keep it modern and edgy.

Mix and Match: Don’t like a full floral look? Try mixing and matching patterns. A floral skirt on bottom and a striped shirt on top. It’s unexpected and totally trendy.

Cute Striped Summer Dresses

Cute Striped Summer Dresses

I’m always on the hunt for cute striped summer dresses — they are easy to dress up and a great way to get ready in a flash this summer. With a summer dress like this one (which is under $100!), you can head to just about any party. Add just a few accessories and you’ve turned one piece into an outfit.

Cute Striped Summer Dresses

Let’s start with the cabi dress. It’s a light weight silky fabric in a cut that fits every figure (and it looks especially good if you have a lot of curves). The Knot Dress is fully lined and hits just above the knee–and guess what? Pockets!

Roberta Roller Rabbit Paola Big Fold Over Clutch

I added a fun new striped bag from Roberta Roller Rabbit. Fringe is a big trend right now and this fuzzy bag is loads of fun. The safe way to wear it is with a white t-shirt and jean shorts, but I’m pushing the boundaries a bit and pairing stripes with stripes.  The Paola Big Fold Over Clutch could be the perfect party bag for your summer. And unlike dinky little clutches, this one can hold a lot more than just a lip gloss and your phone.

Here it is all pulled together. This striped dress is ready to go out on the town.

And the shoes, oh the shoes. Cabi introduced shoes this year and I am loving the Isla Wedge — it is right on-trend. I love the wedge heel, that I can dance in and walk in. It’s a shoe that I’m giving lots of “play time” right now.

Fun Prints for Kids and Moms

Prints are kinda my family’s jam. My kids couldn’t help but fall in love with them thanks to my obsession. Bwah! I’ve been decking them out in fabulous prints since they were infants. I’m talking florals, plaids, stripes, you name it…we love it! And this spring and summer will be no different. We will be rockin’ our favorite fun prints on the regular.

I’ve always subscribed to the school of thought that you should have fun with your clothes. And if your kids are having fun with THEIR clothes, it will be a whole lot easier to get them dressed! In fact, we found some oh-so fun prints for kids and moms recently that perked us all up! And just in case you’ve been looking to add some new prints to your family’s wardrobes, I decided to share our new favorite fashion finds with you.

Let’s talk about the kids first, because, let’s face it, there isn’t much that’s cuter than coordinating kids’ looks. Am I right? And something we love even more than wearing fun prints alone is print mixing. How adorable are the floral print dress, plaid shirt and pastel shorts from Gap? And the glitter bedecked sandals and slide-on sneakers are perfect warm-weather wears too! They actually wore these outfits for my parent’s country club’s annual Easter egg hunt, but they would be perfect for any spring or summer occasion.

And mama had to coordinate with her kiddos too, right? On that note, I paired my cheerful print maxi dress (I linked to a similar one from Gap) with statement turquoise rings because I pretty much try to work them into every single outfit I can. Haha! Plus, they’re just too perfect for this time of year. Frankly, I wear turquoise all year long, but it goes particularly well with traditional warm-weather hues like the orange, red, coral, pink etc. that you saw in this post!

So, there you have it…I hope you enjoyed my family’s take on fun prints. Now go forth and print mix yourselves lovelies!

Two Ways to Wear Metallic Sandals

Being that fall is nearly here, I’m wearing my summer sandals as much as I possibly can. Don’t get me wrong…I love my fall boots, but there is something so freeing about slipping on an easy breezy pair of sandals. Plus, I get to show off my pedi. Haha! The ease of slides is something I’ve really been enjoying this summer and one of my favorite pairs of slide sandals has to be these ergonomic Vionic Jura sandals that I picked up at Sole Provisions. Not only are they a perfect silver that goes with nearly everything, but they’re ridiculously comfortable. Just sayin’. Since metallic sandals have been my summer jam, so I thought it would be fun to show you two ways to wear them!

metallic sandals beaded necklace

traveler pants

The first way I rocked my metallic sandals is with a simple black CAbi tee and they’re oh so versatile traveler pant. I can’t tell you how many ways these bad boys can be worn. Olive pants are so versatile…much like metallic sandals. Thanks to the bit of glam that the sandals brought to my simple look, I needed little more to accessorize it than my trusty African  bead necklace.

Tipsy 3

Tipsy 2

Tipsy 1

My next look is decidedly more casual and a bit cheeky…just like me. Haha! My Dream Team tank top can be found at Tipsy Elves, along with a slew of other hilarious tees. It’s proven to be one of my go-to summer pieces. And it was obviously the perfect thing to wear when I was cheering on Team USA! So much is going on up top, I simply added my favorite turquoise bracelet and a cowboy hat to Bermuda shorts and the metallic sandals.

So, if you too have some sandals that you’d like squeeze a bit more wear out of, I hope this helped give you some more styling options.

How to Wear a Black Maxi in Summer and Fall

I know we’ve already started talking about fall fashion being that September is right around the corner, but I would like to hang on to summer just a little bit longer. So, I’d like to take a moment to focus on one of my favorite summer trends. Neon has always been a summer go-to of mine. I just love how it adds POP to just about anything you pair it with, like a black maxi for instance. Here’s how tow wear a black maxi with neon in the summer AND fall!

black maxi dress

By adding neon statement jewelry and/or sandals you can give a normal black dress a decidedly summery feel. That doesn’t mean you have to stick to neon in the summer however. Let’s talk about how to wear neon this fall…If you pick up pieces that can transition from season to season, it will be a lot easier to put together a seasonal wardrobe.

neon necklace

maxi dress style

The same black maxi would be a great starting point. I scored this flowy beauty at The White Company. In fact, The White Company has a slew of fabulous fall-ready pieces so make sure you poke around there for a bit…But back to the maxi. A little black dress is a must have for any girl’s wardrobe. That’s a given. I would like to make a case for the black maxi too though.

black maxi

Sure I’ll be wearing it with sandals for a while longer thanks to our warm Florida temps, but when things cool down I can rock this maxi with booties and a jean jacket. Just like that you would have an instant fall look. And that same neon statement necklace that I rocked this summer would add some pizazz to my fall outfits too!

So, which summer pieces will you be taking with into fall? I daresay you’ll find some great transitional must haves at The White Company right now!

Monday Mingle: Off The Shoulder Dresses

off the shoulder dresses

Are you loving this summer dress trend? Off-the-shoulder dresses are all the rage right now. While I love the easy style, the only thing that makes me break a sweat is finding the right strapless bra.

Dress | Sunglasses | Tote

If you have a good recommendation, please let me know. The ones I currently own require so much management (which means tugging up and making sure everything stays put) that they drive me bananas.

Back to the dress, I adore this color, J.Crew calls it “bold red” I call it tomato. It’s easy, breezy and ideal for summer travel and really hot days. It’s been 90+ degrees here in NYC. Light dresses are all I want to wear. It’s a really simple cut (you could definitely wear this as maternity or a beach cover-up) and works for most body types.

Nine West Sunglasses

As for the accessories, there’s not much to add to this dress. I kept it simple. My Crystal Blue Sunglasses from Nine West are essential. I kept my other jewelry to my everyday basics, diamond studs, my wedding bands and a few delicate rose gold necklaces.

pom pom tote bag

I hardly ever carry small bags (I wish I could, but I walk everywhere and don’t have a car to store my gear). Totes are my go-to style solution for carrying my stuff. I love this new tote from Lucky Brand. It’s called the Indie Beach Tote Bag. You know why I love it? The pom poms. You could probably just buy some pom poms and add them to your tote. Maybe try that with these purse charms I found on Amazon.

summer outfits

That’s it. A really simple look to create and you’ve probably already got these pieces in your closet. My biggest tip for summer? Wear colors and have fun. Soon enough we’ll be back in our black clothes and bundled up. Embrace the sun!
