Did you happen to catch our recent Facebook Live video about Easter egg-decorating hacks? We shared two fun and easy ways to make dyeing, coloring, and crafting those pretty-in-pastel eggs way easier. Unfortunately, both outcomes were sorta #PinterestFails… ah the beauty and hilarity of live streaming!
Alas, despite our shoddy results, we really do think there are a few simple methods to make the Easter egg decorating process a breeze for Mom and a whole lot of fun for the family. We’ve rounded up five ways to embrace your artistic side this Easter!
Gilded Watercolor Eggs: These are the prettiest eggs we’ve ever laid eyes on; and making them is easier than it looks. All you need is a paintbrush, some watercolor paints, tin foil, and metallic spray paint. Blend swirls of different paint colors together to cover the surface of the egg. Once dry, spray a bit of metallic gold spray-paint on a piece of scrunched up tin foil, and gently wrap around the egg to create the gilded effect.
Shaving-Cream Marbelized Eggs: Fill a tin with shaving cream. Next, drop in multiple dots of food coloring and use the pointed edge of a paint brush to swirl it all together to create a marble effect. Roll your egg in the shaving cream, and leave it to dry covered in foam for 10 minutes, minimum.
Diaper-Cream Painting: Grab a little of that thick white diaper cream and use a thin brush to paint designs on your egg. The cream will act as a barrier (just as it would on your Baby’s bum), and once your egg is dipped in dye, the painted portion will stay white. After the egg has dried, simply wipe the cream off with a dry towel.
Try Chalk or Scribbleable Eggs: No doubt about it, no matter what hack your try or method you use, dying Easter eggs will be a messy and potentially stinky process. And that’s why we’re such big fans of Crayola “scribblable” eggs. These fake plastic eggs can be drawn on with crayons, marker, or paint. Plus they split in half to hide delicious treats. Chalkboard eggs are also a hit!

One of my favorite roles is that of a Ski Mama. Sure, I’m a wife, and a mom and a mom boss, but I relish my time on the slopes. I came to skiing late, I learned at 31 (thanks to Mr. Momtrends) and at the time I didn’t know what a big part of my life it would become. Now we are raising two little skiers and spend a ton of our family time on the slopes. That’s why I started the Digital Family Ski Guide and why I am a semi-professional snow chaser.
To celebrate the launch of our 2016/17 Ski Guide, my co-publisher Kim-Marie of Luxury Travel Mom and I designed these cute Ski Mama t-shirts. They come in sizes XS-L and are just the thing for layering under your ski gear or to wear on any winter outing.
To show you how to style it off the slopes, Kim-Marie and I headed to Bryant Park to do some skating. Sure, you probably know about the Rockefeller Rink, but if you don’t live in NYC you might not have heard of this other skating spot. It’s FREE! All you need to pay for are skates. It’s in a great location, right near the NYC Public Library and very family friendly.
I paired the Ski Mama t-shirt with my favorite cabi denim and a fur vest. I also added my favorite winter hat from Mitscoots.com.
I picked up the cream beanie hat in Austin when I went to visit the Mitscoots headquarters. The sweetest couple founded the company. They were looking for a way to do some good and employ homeless people. The mission is to help to outfit and employ the transitioning homeless. All the hats and socks are 100% made in the USA.
The couple behind the brand volunteered helping the homeless. They studied the problem and found that clean, warm socks were a big deal to men living on the streets. The company was founded with the mission to give a pair of socks away with each purchase. They’ve stayed true to the mission and added cute hats along the way. This brand embodies everything I’m trying to focus on this year. Doing more, but not buying more.
Here’s my way of giving back, when you purchase a Ski Mama t-shirt I’m going to donate $1 to the US Olympic Ski Team to help fund the next dream. Hope you’ll get a t-shirt, wear it a ton and fall in love with this sport and time with family outdoors.

T’is the season to be totally festive. I’ve always loved nail art and firmly believe that even adding a little bit of an accent completely ups your outfit. The problems with nail art is that it’s expensive and/or time consuming. (My favorite nail place charges $68 for a designer manicure. That’s without tip!) What if I told you that it doesn’t have to be either of those things?
Oh yeah, you’ll want to keep reading. I’ve come up with three different ways you can achieve the perfect holiday manicure without breaking the bank. You’ll want to, and be able to, have fabulous nails all year long.
You can use stickers if you’d like. But I prefer to make my own! Watch how I make custom decals made out of nail polish that last for days. Match them to your outfit, cut them out using scissors or punchers, and apply them easily with a top coat.
I was never a fan of fake nails because I always felt that they looked, well, fake. When I was introduced to imPRESS nails, it was love at first…nail? Because they are sooooo easy to use (like, a 5 minute application) and last for about a week, they have quickly become a beauty staple. If you didn’t know, you probably wouldn’t know, would you?? This matte look is so trendy and the glitter accent makes it very merry.
Hope you “nail” your holiday mani. Let us know which one you tried or if you have another favorite way to decorate your nails!

Still have some fresh cranberries left over from last week’s cranberry gin martini or one of these fresh cranberry recipes? Then dust off those copper Moscow Mule cups and mix up a batch of this holiday version – the Cranberry Moscow Mule.
I had pinned this recipe a year or so ago from Michelle at Blackberry Babe and just refound it when I was looking for things to do with all the fresh cranberries I stocked up on. I love that it’s easy, festive, and a fun holiday twist on a drink that’s been so popular in 2016. And delicious. So so delicious.
8 oz. ginger beer
juice of 1 lime
1 jigger of vodka
1 tbsp cranberry juice cocktail
raw cranberries and lime slices for garnish
Combine all ingredients, and stir. Pour over ice, and serve, preferably in a copper mug.
Garnish with raw cranberries and lime slices.
You can play around with the recipe a bit too – I liked it with a little less ginger beer and a little more vodka and cranberry.
While you can serve this cranberry mule in any old cup, there is something about the copper mule mugs that just make these taste better. And stay colder. And the copper color really is quite festive. If you don’t already have some, pick up a pair or 4-pack of these hammer-finish mule mugs to use all year round.

December is here! All month I’ll be sharing some of my favorite holiday cocktails to serve at your holiday parties, a cozy night in, or you know, on a Wednesday after adulting all day long. First up, the cranberry gin martini.
A few days ago we shared some tasty ways to use fresh cranberries, but this cocktail might be my favorite way. Though I often have served pomtinis at my holiday parties, last year I branched out and tried this cranberry gin martini from Swooned and now it’s in my regular holiday rotation.
I love this cocktail because it’s festively red, made with fresh cranberries and not the bottled juice, and only requires a few simple ingredients. Plus, I can make it in bulk AND in advance making it perfect for a party. And did I mention that it’s wonderfully potent? (You’ve been warned.)
Step one – make the cranberry simple syrup.
Cranberry Simple Syrup
1 cup of fresh cranberries
3/4 cup of water
1/3 cup of sugar
Add the ingredients to a small pot on the stove. Stir. Cover with a lid and cook on medium-low for approximately 7-10 minutes or until the cranberries “pop.” Mash with a spoon and reduce the heat to low. Cook another 5 minutes until you notice the sides of the mix starting to gel on the pot. Strain by putting through a fine mesh sieve or use a tablespoon to remove only the juice for the cocktail and save the rest for a jam or traditional cranberry sauce.
I made a triple batch in these pictures since one bag had three cups of cranberries. Now you’re ready to assemble your cocktail. This recipe makes one drink, but it’s easy to make this cocktail in bulk if you keep the ratios the same.
2 ounces of gin
1 ounce of cranberry-infused simple syrup
1 ounce of dry vermouth
Fresh cranberries and rosemary for garnish
Add ice, gin, and cranberry syrup to a cocktail shaker and shake to chill. Pour into a chilled martini glass and garnish.
And while we’re on the subject of holiday cheer, you should check out our holiday gift guide!

Most of us tend to forget the spirit of the season because we get lost in the hustle and the bustle that is inevitable this time of year. The Holidays are all about spending time with family and friends so make sure to keep that in mind when planning for the season ahead. I’ve got some tips to make entertaining easier.
My focus is always on three areas of the house: the kitchen, the pantry and the dining room. Keeping your pantry, kitchen and fridge stocked with the essentials is key.
MOMS HOLIDAY PREP
One of my favorite entertaining essentials is stocking a bar cart like this Threshold Metal & Stone Bar Cart and matching Barware Tool Set with festive beverages and mixers. That way, your guests can have fun mixing their own cocktails and you’re not stuck behind the bar all night.
Pre-Mix one custom cocktail and set out wine, beer, sodas and a big bucket of ice and it’s totally self-serve. Another time saver? Pre-washed and pre-cut Archer Farms Veggies ready to go as soon as you open the bag. Need to freshen up your snack rotation? Try Archer Farms holiday trail and snack mixes that are available for just a couple of weeks during the holiday season, so grab them while you can!
Another tip? Don’t sweat the menu. Sure you want some wow-factor (like a great turkey stuffed with sage and basted with Madeira), but you need some easy go-to recipes. Success® Rice takes just 10 minute to make and can be a key ingredient in some tasty recipes. like this Cranberry Pecan Brown Rice Stuffing. It’s tasty, elegant and effortless. It’s a great classic recipe with a modern twist that will wow your guests. And there’s a variety of products available including White, Whole Grain Brown, Jasmine and Basmati. Everyone in the family will love it. Success is in the Bag.®
Cranberry Pecan Brown Rice Stuffing
2 bags Success® Brown Rice
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1 tsp dried orange peel
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 Tbsp margarine
1/2 cup celery, finely sliced
2 Tbsps shallots, finely chopped (may substitute onion)
1 tsp poultry seasoning
1/2 cup pecans, chopped and toasted
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
salt and ground black pepper, to taste
Prepare rice according to package directions. In a medium microwave safe bowl, mix cranberries and orange peel with chicken stock and microwave on high for 2 minutes. Set aside. Heat a large sauce pan over HIGH heat and add margarine. Stir in celery, shallot and poultry seasoning and sauté 3 minutes. Stir in cranberry mixture, pecans, parsley and rice and cook over medium heat for 3 more minutes or until all liquid is absorbed.
To toast pecans: Pre-heat oven to 350ºF. Place pecans on a small cookie sheet and bake for 5 minutes. Be careful not to burn pecans. Cool.
Enjoying the holiday weekend? We have a few patriotic items to get your holiday really going. You don’t have to be traditional when you’re going the red, white, and blue route: any shade of each hue will do especially if you combine them.
A subtle star, a chunky necklace, and a delicate wrap bracelet are all I need for this weekend. The necklace is from Lands End, the wrap bracelet I scored for super cheap at Tj MAXX, and the earrings, well, they speak for themselves. (and those were a steal– $10!)
If you didn’t get a chance to do any decorating, never fear! Washi tape can come to your rescue in a flash. Add it along the wainscoting in your house (don’t worry, washi tape comes off instantly and doesn’t leave residue), as a border to your front door, around glassware, or make a display on a wall. I made this flag in about 5 minutes. Can you believe that?
And take a look at this amazing canteen from Corkcicle. This bad boy is 60oz. That means it can hold a growler’s worth of beer or two whole bottles of wine. Plus, it will stay cold for 25 hours. Yeah. Hello, picnics!
It’s always important to look the patriotic part. But again, you don’t have to overdue it. I love this nautical print headband from Francesca’s. It’s flexible and comfortable for all day wear. Don’t forget about adding a bit of glitter. This hair clip from ban.do can double as a pin for your blouse, bag, or jacket.
If you don’t have any time to run out and grab these accessories, you can add a colored ribbon to your bags and purses. This white polka-dot ribbon looks so cute in a bow or you can double it and make a knot. The pop of color instantly transforms my every day tote into a weekend-ready bag!
Teleflora sent this fabulous patriotic flower bouquet and I knew that would be my centerpiece. I wanted to serve thematic foods (things that are red, white, and blue) but I also didn’t want to do anything heavy or over the top. I decided on blue corn chips with a sour cream and tomato dip. To prevent the sour cream from getting everywhere, I used a medium sized circle cookie cutter to keep it in place. As you can see, I used a mini envelope and a vial of glitter to create food place cards.
To make paper plates a little bit more exciting, I punched three holes in the side and knotted red, white, and blue bakers twine. I used mini envelopes and a tiny version of the fruit tin to make place cards for guests.
Everyone was also given the opportunity to write a letter. Stamps, plain stationery and red and blue pens were placed around so that people could write and create whenever they wanted. I like organized activities, but giving someone the opportunity to be creative on their own time usually garners more results.
We hope you like these tips for having a fabulous 4th of July. Stay safe, have fun, and enjoy!
