A Back-to-School Plan for Head Lice

Binders. Backpacks. Pencils. Glue. The kids are ready for that first day of school! Woohoo! But between the lunch snacks and school supplies, there’s one more important item to make sure to throw into your back-to-school shopping basket: lice prevention.

Every year more than 12 million kids get lice with preschool and school-aged children the most at risk. Luckily, parents don’t have to sit around, waiting and worrying about that lice letter coming home. There are easy steps parents can take to both decrease a child’s risk of lice AND a simple, one-step solution if lice does make its way into your house. Here’s how…

Here’s my back-to-school plan for preventing and dealing with head lice this school year.

Defense is the best offense

I cringe whenever I find that dreaded half-sheet note from the nurse’s office in my son’s backpack revealing that someone in the class has lice. This year, instead of waiting for the bad news to arrive, I’m starting my defense early by having my boys use Vamousse Lice Repellent and Nit Defense. While the boys brush their teeth in the morning, I’ll give their hair a quick couple of spritzes. The spray dries quickly, doesn’t smell gross, and is made with essential oils that work to repel lice for up to 8 hours (!) without any synthetic pesticides. To my kids, it’s just one more step in the morning routine. To me, it’s a superpower lice defense system that keeps my kids protected all day long and helps me rest easy – even when that lice letter does come home.

Be on the lookout

I admit that the only time I check my kids’ heads for lice is a) when I hear someone at school has it and b) when one of my boys says his head is itchy. But the “itchy head” test is not an effective method. First, not all kids get an itchy head from lice, and second, the itching can take up to 4 to 6 weeks to show up – which gives lice lots of time to spread to other family members. So this school year, once or twice a week when I’m cuddling with my boys in the morning, or watching a movie with them Friday night, I’m just going to take a quick little peek at their scalp and look for lice. About the size of a poppy seed, lice eggs are often located on the hair shaft next to the scalp and can look like dandruff that doesn’t brush away. Be sure to pay particular attention to the nape of the neck, behind the ears, and on bangs – places lice love to hide.

And – sigh – if lice do arrive….

A one-and-done solution

I’m keeping my fingers crossed my boys don’t get lice this school year, but if they do, I’m reaching for a clinically proven treatment solution like Vamousse Lice Treatment. Pesticide-free and made with safe, non-toxic ingredients, I’ll rest easy knowing that with just one 15-minute treatment, the lice and their eggs will be history and my boys and I can get back to daily life. Make sure you grab a bottle of Vamousse’s Lice Elimination Powder too. While lice can only live one or two days without a host, those few days are still enough time for lice to spread to friends, siblings, and, gulp, even parents. After you use the Lice Treatment on your child’s hair, get rid of lice on bedding, clothes, and stuffed animals by washing, soaking, or drying on high heat (at least 130°F). For non-washable household items like couches, carpet, or car headrests, sprinkle on Lice Elimination Powder, let it sit for 60 minutes, and then vacuum it up. A simple, fast, and easy way to prevent lice from spreading. Click here for even more household cleaning tips to prevent lice reinfestation.

Now if only there was a product to prevent homework complaining….

A Lesson in Back-to-School Must-Haves at #MomtrendsSchool

Okay, guys. Imma get real and raw here for a minute (wouldn’t the first time… probably won’t the be the last). Truth is: I’m having a really hard time swallowing the fact that my first baby, my big boy, the little dude that made me a mama is going to be in Kindergarten come September.

Wasn’t it just yesterday that I dropped him off in his two-and-a-half hour Pre-K program for that much-anticipated first day? Now, in just a little over a month, I’m going to send him to elementary school until almost 3 PM every day, Monday through Friday. I could cry just thinking about it. But I know he’s going to be great and do great and enjoy every educational moment… And I might get more consecutive hours of work done than I have in years – ha!

Still, I have a lot to learn about sending a big kid off to Kindergarten, and that’s why I was so excited to go back to #MomtrendsSchool earlier this week.

Momtrends invited a few of our favorite brands and some VIP NYC bloggers and influencers to be schooled in the latest and greatest must-haves for the back-to-school season.

Better yet, we’re going to send YOU to virtual Momtrends School and give you a freebie lesson, via this blog post, in everything you and your kiddos will want and need to go to the head of the class. So without further adieu…

Ozery Bakery: My early-morning weekday breakfast woes have been solved, thanks to Ozery Bakery’s “Morning Rounds.” These delicious, wholesome breakfast breads are baked with hearty whole grains, fruits, and seeds for a satisfying, flavorful start to the day. Their “One Buns” are pre-sliced for your lunch-packing convenience, and, better yet, chock-full of fiber and protein. The “Snack Rounds” and “Brioche Bites” are the perfect after school snacks for hungry kiddos and moms alike.

Luv 2 Nosh: So you know those cracker-cookies you give your baby? This is that, but better–because they’re organic and available in so many unique and delicious flavors. Nosh has munchables, melties, and individual serving puff packets. My babe loves all of their “goodies” and even my soon-to-be Kindergartener asks for a “Nosh” cookie. Since there’s practically nothing in them, it’s a “treat” we can both feel good about.

Kite Hill: I have to admit, as a regular milk and cheese eater, I was skeptical of trying a dairy-alternative product. But Kite Hill’s artisanal delicacies are made with the simplest ingredients, and their best selling nut milk yogurts, and awarding winning cream cheese style spreads are actually insanely good. I’m sold, and I’ll definitely be packing these delights in my big boy’s lunchbox.

Name Bubbles: I would lose my head if it wasn’t attached to my body… and I’m starting to recognize that my son may have inherited my knack for, well, misplacing personal items. We have already had to buy multiple thermoses and backpacks and sneaker sets. Ugh. Well, Name Bubbles to the rescue. Their goal is to keep your kids’ items OUT of the lost & found with customizable, colorful, and cute name labels that withstand the test of time.

We had our own version of a Lost & Found box at our own Momtrends School event, where bloggers had to find and fish their own “name bubbled” item. It took me back to my childhood. Except this time, there was no question which item was mine!

Raisels: My guy loves sour candy. But I don’t particularly like how it’s loaded with all sorts of mystery ingredients and food dyes. But Raisels are a great alternative I can feel good about. Their golden raisins are sprinkled with sour fruity flavoring so they taste like candy, but they’re really just fruit! I can’t wait to break these out for our next movie night.

Hasbro: We love to play board games in our home. Pizza, some games, and quality time together is how I plan to spend our first Friday night of the school year! These Hasbro games (which we all went home with!) are going to be such a bit, and I’m looking forward to surprising my little guy and rewarding him for a successful first week of school.

Staples: Staples is our one-stop-shop for all the functional and fashionable school supplies a budding scholar could ever ask for. With emoji-inspired essentials, fun flamingo backpacks, and even donut and macaron mini erasers, Staples once again brings the cool back to school… as always!

Twelve Little: I’ve been a fan of Twelve Little’s incredibly chic and practical diaper bags for some time now; and I couldn’t be more excited about their totally awesome backpacks and lunch bags. The comfortable and clean designs look good and the functionality can’t be beat. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Momtrends event without a fun activation; so we customized lunch bags with iron-on patches and then challenged our bloggers to pack them with all the good foods they collected throughout the night.

Orchestra: We had a few of our bloggers’ kids on hand to model some of the super-charming styles from Orchestra, a European brand making its way to the United States. With wardrobe staples for kids from ages newborn to 14, it’s got a classic vibe with a bit of edge.

American Girl: Growing up isn’t easy. Kids and tweens these days have a lot to deal with on a daily basis. And they don’t always want to listen to mom and dad’s words of wisdom. That’s why we adore the advice series from American Girl. These books offer practical, useful, and digestible nugget for girls about everything from bullying to digital overload. (I think I might even need that one.)

Bath and Body Works: These luxurious lotions, potions, creams, and soaps from Bath  and Body Works are amazing for the home, for dorm rooms, guest bathrooms, and everything in between. And that hooray candle is necessary – along with a bubble bath and a glass of vino – after  a long hard work and school week. (Fri-Yay!)

JC’s Pie Bites: We love treating the kids (and ourselves) after a long hard day hitting the books–and JC’s Pie Bites are creamy and lush on the inside with a punch of crunch on the outside. Perfect for an end of day goodie.

As always, our #MomtrendsSchool students left with some hefty homework… in the form of three amazing gift bags, including an adorable backpack courtesy of Staples and lots of swag! School isn’t easy, but it sure is rewarding.

3 Ways to Manage the BTS Paper Overload

Anyone else drowning in back-to-school paperwork? The very first day my three kids came home from school with at least 30 pages each of forms and information and calendars and supply list and aaaahhhhh! We’re already a few weeks in now and already my desk has a growing pile of soccer schedules and artwork and classroom reminders and permission slips. Sounds familiar? Here are 3 ways to manage the back-to-school paper overload.

3 Ways to Manage the BTS Paperwork

1. There’s an app for that.

calendar

You live on your phone so make it work for you by getting important dates and times on a digital calendar now. Toss the paper soccer schedule and school snack calendar and put it all on a calendar app. Color code after school activities by kid, share calendars with your spouse or S.O., and set reminders for items like buying snacks for Girl Scouts or what days you are helping in the classroom. Using a digital calendar will help you stay on top of things and keep your desk clean(er).

2. Make it digital.

scanner

If you need to save the information but want to toss the physical paper, pick up one of these space-saving portable scanners. I use this one that connects seamlessly with Evernote so that info about how to log on to see my kids’ grades online or the outline for the monthly book report is saved – digitally. Then instead of digging through a mountain of saved papers looking for that one piece I need to reference (because that’s always fun), I can easily search Evernote with tags and keywords to bring up the needed doc with ease. This can be a great way for kids to save important info for their classes too.

3. Preserve with a pic.

I saw this brilliant idea for managing artwork on Instagram recently from graphic designer and mom of three Ashlee Proffitt. She laid out her kids’ favorite artwork on white poster board and snapped a picture. Then she uploaded the pics to Shutterfly and made a book at the end of the year! No trying to decide which art projects are save-worthy. No trying to figure out how to store that life-sized silhouette tracing of your toddler. And best of all – No. Glitter. Projects. So put that collage on the fridge for a week and enjoy it. Then snap a picture to save for the end of the year and “file” the original in the good ol’ “circular file” (aka the trash).

What are your tricks for managing the back-to-school paper overload?

5 Lunch Boxes to Make Your Life Easier

As much as it pains me to say….lunch-box-packing season is upon us. Wah! I jest. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to pack your kids nutritious food that not only fuels them for the day ahead but hopefully teaches them healthy habits along the way. That being said, I’m ALL for lunch boxes that make my life easier. Here are five I’m eyeing this back-to-school season.

LUNCH BOXES

From making lunch packing simpler to cleaning a breeze, here are five lunch boxes that can make your M-F a bit easier.

OmieBox

Hot & cold together at last. Do you have a kid who loves to bring soup but also a cold sandwich? Or longs to bring warm mac-n-cheese along with cold apple and carrot slices? Finally there is a way to do both! In the SAME LUNCHBOX. #genius The OmieBox lunch box lets you keep hot food hot and cold food cold all packed in the same cute bento-style box. The insulated no-spill bowl can be filled with soup, noodles, pasta or other warm foods and the specially designed lid is easy for small hands to remove. The OmieBox has a handle so it can be carried on its own or you can throw it in a traditional lunch bag if you wish. I also love that the company sells replacement parts so if something breaks or wears out, you don’t need to toss the whole box. BUY: Amazon

planetbox lunch box

Bag-free and dishwasher-safe. I am a huge fan of Planetboxes and have used them for the last five years with my three kids. First, I love that the design of Planetbox means that I don’t have to put everything in little baggies. Before Planetboxes (B.P. as I like to call it), I could easily use 4-6 plastic sandwiches baggies for each of my kid’s lunch! 6 bags x 3 kids x 5 lunches a week = 90 baggies a week! All of which often ended up in the trash. Cringe. Now, I plop sandwiches and grapes, carrots and cookies into little compartments and am bag-free. Second, the stainless steel design means that the lunch box doesn’t stain, doesn’t absorb smells, and is super easy to clean. They are dishwasher safe though I find it easy just to spray them out in the sink and let them sit on the counter to dry. Choose the Launch for kids who eat a full sandwich and the Rover or Shuttle for kids who like lots of little nibbles. They are an investment up front, but we are still using the ones I got five years ago. BUY: Amazon

PackIt Lunch Box

No more lost ice packs. It happens at least 2-3 times a year. One of my kids comes home with his lunch box sans ice pack. Did it get thrown away in the trash? Left on the cafeteria table? Who knows, but I’m regularly having to replace them. The solution? A freezable lunch bag by PackIt. Available in a variety of kid-friendly sizes, shapes and patterns, PackIt lunch bags go directly into the freezer overnight, allowing the built-in freezable gel to get nice and cold. In the morning, simply fill with food and you’re ready to go! No ice packs to remember to put in. No ice packs for kids to remember to bring home. PackIt lunch boxes are designed to keep food cold for up to 10 hours, and I also love that it also solves my problem of where to store lunch boxes for the next day – stashed in the freezer! BUY: Amazon

Bentology lunch box

No-touching food separation for picky eaters. Have a child who hates when foods touch? The solution is the adaptable compartments of the Bentology lunch boxes that let you mix-and-match different size compartments to keep food separate while still giving you the option to send different size and shape food each day. Use all five included compartments one day or remove them if needed to fit larger food in like a drink or yogurt container. Either way, food is never ever ever touching another food. BUY: Amazon

Prepd Pack Lunch Box

A grown-up lunch box: Last but not least, I’m loving this new Prepd Pack lunch box that is the solution to just eating your kids’ leftovers for lunch. This lunch box has “adulting” written all over it, from its stylish modern design and being eco-friendly, to saving you money on buying lunch each day and, get this, helping you calculate your calorie and nutrition intake with the Prepd app and recipe collection. Say goodbye to that sad smushed PB&J and hello to a grown-up, delicious, nutritious real food lunch.

Arizona Denim for Back to School

jcpenney,#soworthit, back to school, arizona denim, denim for kids, girls' clothing, YMCA, jcpenney and YMCA

Heading back to school can evoke many feelings. It can be a time of excitement, anticipation, and for some kids, nerves. It is a time that I want my children to feel most confident in themselves. I want them to feel ready and able to face any challenge put before them. I am proud to support JCPenney’s partnership with the YMCA to ensure all kids head back-to-school confident and prepared by offering all of the basics they need to start the school year right.  We headed to JCPenney and nabbed the cutest denim styles from Arizona.

jcpenney,#soworthit, back to school, arizona denim, denim for kids, girls' clothing, YMCA, jcpenney and YMCA

We shopped the cute Arizona denim looks to gear up for back-to-school. Not only did we find bejeweled jeans, but every girl’s gotta have a denim jean jacket, no? It adds a cool vibe to any outfit and is a stylish way to sneak in a layer. For our soon to be preschooler, I could not skip over an adorable denim skirt paired with a two in one hoodie and denim jacket. The bright pop of color was a perfect contrast to the denim and kept her look age-appropriate and fun.

The partnership between JCPenney and the YMCA will bring both an Arizona Jeans promotion and a means of volunteerism.   JCPenney associates will have the opportunity to connect with their local Y branch to volunteer in many ways including supporting summer camp activities, helping with youth programs, doing community clean up and tutoring or mentoring.

It feels great knowing that I’ll be doing double duty when shopping Penney Fridays and Saturdays. Not only will I be able to get affordable styles for all of my littles, I will be supporting JCPenney’s give back program. JCPenney will donate $1 for each pair of Arizona Jeans sold to support the Y’s academic achievement programs and help all kids get ready for back to school. Knowing that I am helping give every child a chance to head back to school ready to learn makes me feel good, and reminds me to continue to instill in my children not to take anything for granted.

In addition to the everyday value you can count on while shopping at JCPenney for the whole family, don’t forget their Penney Fridays and Saturdays deals. Head to JCPenney this August 19th and 20th   and grab great deals on the latest trends for BTS trends. Deals like $13 Arizona kids’ jeans and $17 Arizona jeans deal for this week’s Penney Saturday. JCPenney has an additional 15% off coupon for customers using Pokemon Go who verbally tell an associate or show an associate in-app their favorite character.

Shopping JCPenney for back-to-school will not only get me affordable and on-trend, Arizona denim styles my kids love, but the real value is knowing I will be helping give all children a chance to start the year off on the right foot.

How to Pack a No Waste Lunch

no waste lunch, jet.com, packing a no waste lunch, how to pack a no waste lunch, btw, school lunchThis school year I will pack over 400 lunches. I strive to send my children off to school with healthy, well-balanced lunches that will keep their energy levels up and their minds focused. But as we all heard loud and clear at the opening ceremony of the Olympics, the environment needs our help and it is up to us to make that change.  When I think about those 400 lunches, I know I can make a difference by sending each of my littles off with a no waste lunch.

no waste lunch, jet.com, packing a no waste lunch, how to pack a no waste lunch, btw, school lunch

Packing a no waste lunch is easier than it sounds and it, like anything else, just requires a little practice, determination and the right tools. As a busy WAHM, I am all about making back to school shopping as painless as possible. The thought of combing aisle after aisle to grab what I need makes my head spin. I gathered everything I needed with an easy click. Jet.com had everything I needed to pack a no waste lunch and I didn’t even have to leave my house!

You will need to invest a bit to get started on packing no waste lunches. Experience has taught me to chose wisely so the refillable, and reusable items can last for school years to come.  Jet.com is a site curated with top brand name items from everything like day-day to essentials, to everything you need to pack a no waste lunch for back to school. As you shop you can watch the prices drop, which turned into a kind of game for me. The more I filled up my cart on Jet.com, the more I saved per item.

A huge bonus for the back to school rush is that you can enjoy 2-day delivery on thousands of items (just look for the 2-day delivery icon!) With Jet.com your family can shop all of your back-to-school needs as well as every day essentials, Plus, everything gets delivered directly to your door!  I enjoyed free shipping over $35, a minimum order price that’s easy to reach and makes shopping at Jet.com a breeze!

back to school, jet.com, no waste lunch, how to pack a no waste lunch, BTS shopping, BTS lunch

The first and easiest step is to get a reusable lunch box, tote, sack, bag-whatever your child will use every day to carry their lunch to school. We are obsessed with bees in our house, so finding this soft, insulated lunch box was meant to “bee”. Ditch the plastic water bottles, and juice boxes and try a reusable bottle. We chose this one from Kid-Basix because of its lovely fuschia accents and attached cap (which not only means it will keep the spout clean, but it won’t get left on the cafeteria table either!)

back to school, jet.com, no waste lunch, how to pack a no waste lunch, BTS shopping, BTS lunch

To pack a variety of different snacks, you’ll need various sized containers. With Jet.com doing a search for what you need is easy. The site is super easy to navigate, and find what you are looking for. Not too many choices to feel overwhelmed, yet enough variety to choose what is just right for you.

Mini stainless steel containers are perfect for dips, nuts, trail mix or olives. We rely on reusable snack bags for dry snacks like veggie sticks, pretzels or crackers. The kids love these sturdy re-zip snack bags from Blue-Avocado because not only do they zipper close, they’re clear so the kids get a sneak-peek of what’s inside. We also say goodbye to single serve yogurt cups and apples sauce.

back to school, jet.com, no waste lunch, how to pack a no waste lunch, BTS shopping, BTS lunch

We replaced the plastic cups with refillable food pouches for up to  5 oz. of semi-liquid food. The kids love the ease of the pouch and I the ones from GoFreshBaby are easy to fill, seal and get clean. Do yourself a favor a get a few mini funnels to make filling the pouch a breeze. I use a bottle brush after each use to get the pouches nice and clean.

back to school, jet.com, no waste lunch, how to pack a no waste lunch, BTS shopping, BTS lunch

Finding healthy snacks like organic applesauce, non-gmo mixed nuts and
Jet.com made shopping organic apple slices bring me to my happy place. I love that I can re-order previously purchased items without a hassle, and with Jet.com there’s no membership or annual fees.

For larger items or “build you own” options, sectioned containers are a great alternative to sandwich bags, tin foil or plastic wrap. We opted for Mulit-color, Bento-style clear containers that are BPA-free, kid friendly, and locks in freshness and smells. The different sections are great for keeping messier foods in place, and work especially well for those kids that don’t like their foods to touch.

Top off your no waste lunch with a love note and viola’ you’ll not only get a smile from your little one, but a nod of approval from Mother Earth.

One Stop Shopping with Lands’ End

Back to School, BTS, Lands' End, Kids clothing ,Kids gear, Back to school gear, BTS shopping, kids shoes

For us, the summer is only half way over. There is plenty more summer fun to be had and we are taking full advantage of this.  Time at the beach, playing tourist in our home town and spending lots of time with friends and family.  It is also time for “weekend at Grandpa & Grammy’s”. This is a tradition my parents started and includes each grandchild (there are 10!) getting to spend one-on-one time with G & G. For all the school aged grandkids this also includes a little special Back to School shopping.

Back to School, BTS, Lands' End, Kids clothing ,Kids gear, Back to school gear, BTS shopping, kids shoes

In order to manage this, my parents rely on Lands’ End for school shopping and have for as long as I can remember.  Lands’ End is synonymous with Back to School because you can grab all of the must-haves (but the pencils!) with one-stop stopping.

Back to School, BTS, Lands' End, Kids clothing ,Kids gear, Back to school gear, BTS shopping, kids shoes

I know our family has come to love and trust Lands’ End for three big reasons. One the quality of each and every item. From footwear, to jackets to jeans-their pieces are made from long lasting, durable fabrics that not only look good but feel great.  WE can’t say enough about those Iron Knee® pants for boys. They dramatically reduce the wear and tear on the knee without extra bulk. Say good-bye to torn knees after one round on the playground.

Back to School, BTS, Lands' End, Kids clothing ,Kids gear, Back to school gear, BTS shopping, kids shoes

We also love Lands’ End for the classic style. The pieces are timeless, yet modern and will stay in style long after the trends of today pass. Not to mention that the kids want to wear them! There is something for everyone. I love the graphic t’s paired with leggings and boots for my daughter.

Back to School, BTS, Lands' End, Kids clothing ,Kids gear, Back to school gear, BTS shopping, kids shoes

The layered look works well for my son. You can’t go wrong with a rugby in classic colors pulled over a graphic T, paired with jeans, cool blue shoes and of course, you gotta have the awesome striped socks peeking out.

Back to School, BTS, Lands' End, Kids clothing ,Kids gear, Back to school gear, BTS shopping, kids shoes

I know moms appreciate the offering of “slim”, “husky” and “plus” so that every child gets a “just right” fit.  The last big reason is what got us hooked on Lands’ End in the first place. It is just so easy to grab everything you need to Back to School. Need a backpack?-check lunchbox?check-cool shoes, rain gear, graphic t’s, and jeggings? CHECK! Lands’ End takes the stress out of heading back to school by offering all of your BTS needs.

Back to School, BTS, Lands' End, Kids clothing ,Kids gear, Back to school gear, BTS shopping, kids shoes

Can you believe the gorgeous footwear? I swooned over my daughter’s suede riding boots and the lace-up kicks for my son were cool, calm and collective all rolled into one.

Whether your child wears a uniform, wants to a little something special on their lunchbox or is like mine is obsessed with their initials, Lands’ End can personalize just about anything. Adding their own individual style completes any look for Back to School.

Back to School Shopping with Joules

One of my most vivid memories of starting a new school year was our Back to School shopping haul. I loved to spend the day perusing clothing that suited me. My mom determined to get each of us a mix and match wardrobe that would last until spring, my sister and I making sure we made complete outfits before giving the final nod of approval. Once home we would put on a fashion show of all of our goodies, the excited anticipation rising as the first day of school approached.

Now that I am a mama to three littles I love to indulge my own children with the same tradition. I am always on the hunt to find styles that are unique, stylish and durable. I am usually hard pressed to find a brand that suits the style looks of both my son & daughter, but this time I hit the jackpot with a brand that is new to me, Joules. One look at their Back to School line and I was hooked.

Joules brings you quality pieces that pay attention to the details down to every last stitch. The clothing feels classic and refined yet each piece is cut in modern silhouettes that stay up to date with the current trends.

The Joules collection for girls is feminine, fun and the color palette just right. This floral and striped jersey sweatshirt dress is a healthy mix of fun and casual comfort without compromising on sweet style. The cut is perfect for the classroom and the playground, a must in all our clothing picks.

The striped accent cuff matches the striped skirt underlay of this faux two piece look. The sweatshirt top in the floral print keeps it from being sloppy all while maintaining the coziness you’d expect.

The Joules collection for boys is equally stylish, made with great, long lasting fabrics and just as easy to wear. For my son, the classic stripe half-zip sweatshirt feels updated with the accent at the neck, and the fabric is comfortable, soft and looks great even after a full day of school and play. The jeans are a great cut with just enough styled detailing on the back pockets.

Not only can you count on Joules to bring you back to school clothing, but their outerwear is just as cute. For him, I can’t say enough about this packable jacket. I love the pop of color added in at the lining and hood. Don’t let the lightweight material fool you, it can stand up to whatever winter throws your way without the bulk or over-bundled look. And, for her, not only do the zebras make any rainy day more cheery, the bright mix of colors draws you in and adds to the whimsy of this waterproof, Sherpa-lined coat.

This year marks another milestone for us~our littlest one is starting preschool!  While this back to school brings a pile of nerves for me, my daughter is chatting up school non-stop. and of course, it is all about the gear! I think a certain type of comfort that is offered when a child gets to pick their own lunchbox and backpack. Our little one has certainly grown attached to her little unicorn “friend” as she calls her backpack, lunchbox & matching straw drink bottle. I am happy to send her off to school knowing that she has her little friend, Eureka Unicorn, with her that she can share with her teacher, friends, and other mini classmates.

Skip Hop has the cutest backpacks, lunch boxes and coordinating drink bottles for back to school. Everything in the ZOO collection is not only super fun, but the colors are well thought out and each animal is truly unique and has its own special flare.

My little gaggle of preschoolers were all oohs and aahs as they got to know their new tag-along friends~a perfect way to kick off a new school year.

The Zoo Collection from Skip Hop offers a wide variety of animal friends (25 in all!) that are just too cute to pass up. This year they introduced Riggs Raccoon, and Cody Chameleon to the gang. The Little Kids Backpacks are perfectly sized for preschool children~not overwhelming or heavy packs here. The kids love that the backpacks have two zipper compartments (the front one is insulated and complete with a mesh pocket) to hold all types of finds, treasures and all of the school “must haves”. The side pocket adjusts to hold drink bottle, sippy cup or even a juice box.

Skip Hop knows little kids. Not only are the animal backpacks whimsical; they are roomy, durable and take the tugs and pulls of little hands.

Moms love how padded the shoulder straps are, how easily the packs zipper open and closed and of course that all the Skip Hop backpacks are phthalate-free. Bonus? The lining is so easy to clean! The details are incredible and do not go unnoticed by the carriers. The accent tags on the zippers are just too cute and really make each bag special.

Having a matching Skip Hop Zoo Lunchie & Straw Bottle to boot just completes the Back to School readiness. Zoo Lunchies coordinate with the entire line of Zoo Packs. Of course, the friendly animal faces are beloved by all the little ones and the Zoo Lunchies are perfectly sized for little kids and the roomy (and insulated) main compartment holds sandwiches, snacks, drinks and more. The additional mesh pocket is perfect for lunch money, an ice pack or utensils.  I love how the top handle clips onto any backpack and of course you can expect all Skip Hop Lunchies to be phthalate free.

The Skip Hop ZOO Straw Bottle is easy for the kids to flip open and of course the adorable ZOO animal of their choice is adorned on the front. The Skip Hop Zoo Straw Bottle gives little ones a “big-kid cup” with the protection of a flip-top lid. Dishwasher-safe; also comes with an extra straw. The bonus velcro strap lets little ones wear it on their wrist, attach it to their Pack or their Lunchie~all promoting a healthy dose of independence.
