Conference fashions don't need to be a major source of stress. Right now thousands of women are preparing to descend on San Diego for one of the nation's leading blogging conferences. They'll be networking, socializing and gaining valuable information on how to build a brand or simply how to get more out of blogging. Exciting stuff to be sure, but with all this buzz of activity comes the need to dress to impress. Even if you're not going to BlogHer, read on. These tips can help you with conferences of any type be they purely social or entirely work-oriented.

Sorry ladies, I'm not going to tell you what you wear doesn't matter. Yes it's true online it's all about the quality of your writing and your can-do spirit. However when attempting to make new "real-world" connections you need to dress the part. Looking confident and pulled together go a long way towards making a great first impression. Here's the good news: You don't have to go on a budget-busting shopping spree. It's likely you already have what you need in your closet and with a few accessories (borrowed or sourced inexpensively)--you'll be on your way to fabulous.

Rule #1. Dresses Rule. Take a gander at this one from Ralph Lauren. It's navy and super simple to accessorize. I'm also slipping in something from Kiyonna so you can see how color can work just as easily as a neutral. Yes, you can wear the same dress from day to night, just switch up the accessories. Flats for day and then a heel when you step out on the town.

Rule #2. Bring a great bag. You'll likely be carrying cards, camera, laptop, etc. a tiny little bag isn't going to cut it. Opt for a great backpack or tote. Last year I purchased a purple Tory Burch backpack for the conference and that same bag will likely be making another appearance, but I also love this Wide Sequin Tote ($59.90) from LOFT.

Rule #3. Don't break in new shoes. See it's not all about shopping for new. We want you to shop your closet. Because blisters are not fashionable. With all-day long events, breaking in a new pair of 3" heels is going to be a disaster. We love the wedge heel trend and bet you already have a pair in your closet--here's a favorite style from Lauren.

Rule #4. Wrap it up. Conference halls and restaurants can be notoriously over air-conditioned. Bring a wrap or a cardigan. This jersey wrap ($68) from Splendid is a great example of something that is versatile, easy to pack and chic.

Rule #5. Embrace color. I loved the dress Nichelle (aka stylmom) wore last year to a party (top feature). The vibrant yellow was a show-stopper. While a yellow dress may not be your thing, consider how you can add pops of color to your neutral wardrobe. Chic jeans or chinos are entirely perfect for blogher. Consider adding a great statement necklace in an eye-catching color or tossing a gorgeous scarf over a white tee and khaki-colored capris. Chic and effortless. For necklaces, we love Stella & Dot and the Theodora & Callumscarves (on sale now for $69) can't be beat.

With a little careful packing, you'll be on the road to taking in the sights and sounds of your destination city, not stressing over having the perfect wardrobe.
