In theory it's pretty difficult to become completely enamored of an article of clothing based solely on the packaging in which it arrives. But, as I learned when a dress from Sonnet James arrived, it is entirely possible. Have you ever read a more fantastic mission statement for clothing? When it comes to dressing for the day to day grind of a busy mom, anything that helps me feel young at heart, present in the moment and more playful is a winner.
I'm the first to admit I have a row of dresses in my closet that I adore, but that are simply not practical for my day to day life as a busy mom. And I know I'm not alone. Sonnet James was born out of the idea that beautiful clothing should work for moms—durable, comfortable, and beautiful, yet easy to care for.
The Mara Dress represents how I view Sonnet James dresses: simple yet bold color blocking that achieves a stylish look without a lot of fuss. The grey body of the dress is accented with red color blocking around the hem and white across the top. The curved arm design flatters the figure and adds interest. The dress is perfect for wearing all on its own, but it's been chilly here so I have worn it (twice in, like, 10 days!) over leggings.
The quality and weight of the material set the dress apart from first touch. It's thick without being stuffy, which means it stands up to lots of activity and doesn't cling to my body. In other words: it flatters the figure and makes me feel comfortable. During my years of breastfeeding I developed a habit of wearing an undershirt or camisole every single day for extra coverage and I've come to really rely on them. I can honestly say this is the first dress I've worn in years without a camisole! I just didn't need it.
But, no matter how cute the dress is - and, it's cute! I've gotten numerous compliments every time I've worn it - the best part is that it allows me the freedom to go about the day without worrying about what I'm wearing. There's no tugging the skirt down, or shirt riding up, or too low neckline. It's full coverage with lots of style and comfort.
Skip the Crowds and Take Your Family Skiing in Waterville Valley

The dress is a bit shorter on me than on the 5'6" model on the website, but it's still long enough that I'll be able to run around with the kids when it warms up without worrying about showing too much skin.
I'm totally hooked on Sonnet James and I know the Mara dress won't be my last. Here are a few more dresses I'm eager to get in my closet.
