Sometimes I think my oldest son gets the short end of the Mini Style stick around here. The older he gets, the more traditional I dress him and sometimes that's just not fun or exciting. But, tried and true, reliable basic styles don't have to be boring. Florsheim, a brand that has been making men's shoes for more than 120 years, steps into the boys department with modern features on classic, preppy styles.
The Cove Ox Jr. is a oxford boat shoe, designed for comfort and stability. It's a classic silhouette with a tie closure that can go from casual to dressy for all your kid-friendly occasions. Of course, it's a perfect shoe for an active kid at school, too.
Despite my son's goofball face, I love the photo above because you can see some of the details that reflect the thoughtfulness and style put into the shoes. The red trim on the flexible EVA sole adds some fun color when he walks. The sides have mesh venting to allow airflow (prevent stink!) and keep feet cool. These are some great "boat" shoes that are just as appropriate on solid ground as they are on the water.

Don't you love the water wear marks on the shoes? I mean, he was outside for about 5 minutes before I took photos. But, hey, that's life and that's how my kids treat their shoes. And the good news? The shoes dried and looked fantastic with no sign of their dash through the wet grass. So, yes, the shoes look lovely out of the box but, more importantly, they stand up to real life fantastically and continue to look great.
Driftwood Slip On Jr. is a great basic that can dress up for church and works just as well with jeans for school. It's an easy-on and easy-off relaxed fit shoe that both my son can 100 percent agree to love. The style is just screaming for spring and summer weather and will look fantastic as we transition to shorts, but I love how it pairs with jeans, too.
When putting this post together I found so.many.pairs. of shoes at Florsheim that I want to snap right up and add to my son's closet. I must have been feeling winter basics the day I was picking samples for this post, because I went all standard brown, but let me tell you the styles available go way beyond basic. There is some serious color, style and fun to be found at Florsheim. The perforated cream oxford? Gray shoes with teal accents? And the denin-look slip-ons? Obsessed with all of them!
