A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of attending the Grand Re-Opening of the store Walgreens in Union Square. This newly renovated 18,000-square-foot store is the new flagship location in NYC where you will discover everything from fresh fruit smoothies and sushi in their Upmarket cafe, a gorgeous beauty selection featuring the iconic brand, Boots and an upgraded pharmacy where you can go in for drop-in appointments as well as the traditional retail offerings that all Walgreens stores are renowned for.
Prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony, myself and a group of bloggers received a tour of the new store. Starting with the Upmarket cafe, an innovative way for customers to enjoy an overall wellness experience, I learned that the store received fresh fruit every other day. This includes a bright collection of apples, pears, grapes and more that you see the second that you walk in the door.
Next up we tasted their sushi, which is prepared and made fresh daily where I was happily surprised by how delicious and affordable it was. Additionally, they also offer an incredible vegetable juice and smoothie bar where I bought a large kale juice for $4.99. I loved that since these juices (in that size) generally range for about $8 and up. The cafe also makes their coffee every two hours, offers sandwiches that are delivered everyday (and can be warmed!) and delicious Fro-Yo (including my favorite flavor: pumpkin pie) that is delivered every other day and can be topped with a collection of different toppings that is NOT priced by weight. For NYC, this is an incredible way to get your favorite treat without spending a lot of money.
Next up, we went to the beauty section that resembled a high-end boutique. I instantly noticed their Boots display complete with Boots Extract line. During the tour we learned that going to Walgreens offers the unique experience of having a beauty consultant on-hand to answer all of your pressing beauty questions. For my sensitive skin, I spoke with a consultant who recommended No. 7 and their Boots expert line.
We then visited the innovative pharmacy (also on the 2nd floor) where you can not only drop-off and pick-up prescriptions, you can also visit the clinic if you are seek or need immunizations. Another bonus is that this area has an ultra modern waiting area, complete with TV screens, charging stations for your phones or computers, and plush seating.
The rest of the store was immaculate and offered the standard retail and drugstore finds as well as some unique ones including a dedicated Yoga section.
After the tour, our group was also on-hand to see the ribbon cutting ceremony and taste some more food from the incredible Upworthy cafe.
Offering unique finds to fit into the fast-paced New Yorker's life, the Walgreens in Union Square is an incredible place to discover new beauty trends, a fast and efficient pharmacy and high-quality and fresh food.
