Marni is pleased to announce the opening of its new Marni Edition store in the heart of New York Citys Meatpacking district. The 250 square-meter store follows the new design concept, that was created for the Marni Edition collections and first presented in Hong Kong. The New York store will feature the Marni Edition collections, next to the mens and childrens lines.
The concept takes on a new challenge by marrying ethics with aesthetics, to provide resources to support the activities of young artists, and to experiment with different collaborations and communication methods. The contemporary attitude of the creative teams choice, which is also ethical, demonstrates the heightened focus of action on ecology and sustainability.
The store merges two pre-existent architectonical volumes and integrates a pedestrian crossing by enclosing it between the two entrance doors. The wallpaper, that covers part of the passage, is the memory and the result of the video incursions of PASTIS in the creative workshop of Marni in Milan.
The shop features huge glass windows on both sides and four cut-outs in the ceiling allow a horizontal and vertical view that goes beyond the architectonical space. The subtle and discreet lights, which are embedded in the ceiling, outline the triangular shape of the store, which is recognizable for its simplicity of execution, the easy availability of materials and the possibility to re-use existing furniture.
The display racks for the ready-to-wear collection have been crafted from tubular pipes with iron contours, welded, bolted and held together by steel hinges to underscore the versatility of the elements. Modular composites can be formed into different configurations to ensure an eclectic range of display solutions. A system of steel sheets, dedicated to the accessories, separate the ready-to-wear displays. The freestanding fitting rooms in satin steel are lacquered in bright fuchsia inside. Some are overturned, set on wheels and positioned in different places of the store, underlining the concept of the continuous evolution of space.
