Along with their other Christmas gifts, I love to include a science kit or two for my kids. They both love experiments and I appreciate that they are learning something interesting as they play. My 8 year old even requested science kits for her birthday! There are tons of great options on the market, everything from traditional chemistry kits to quirky make-your-own creations. We've gathered a few of our favorites.
Forget about Barbie, my science loving, girly girl really loves this one - Scientific Explorer Magnificent Manicure Kit Science Kit ($15.99) It features the opportunity to create your own sea salt scrub and crystal mud, prior to soaking your hands for a manicure.
For the future electrical engineer - Thames & Kosmos Technology and Electronics Electronics Workshop ($60) A fun kit for ages 10 and up, the budding engineer follows the story of a futuristic young robot as he begins his electronics apprenticeship, while you work along side him completing the tasks.
Every little scientist has to start somewhere - Thames & Kosmos Little Labs Stepping into Science ($40) The perfect science kit for the preK set! It features 25 simple experiments in different scientific fields, a great introduction for the younger set. My kindergartner was thrilled that he could do many of these with minimal help from mom!
"When I grow up, I want to be a doctor!" - The Magic School Bus: A Journey into the Human Body and The Magic School Bus: The World of Germs ($17.99) A chance to map the tongue and taste buds, build your own stethoscope, cultivate bacterial cultures or swab for germs are lots of fun for the pre-pre-pre-Med student.
Science and drama can mix for a budding magician - Scientific Explorer's The Magic Science Wizard's Kit ($19.95) Both of my children love to put on shows, and my oldest even did a "magic" session at camp this past summer. This set includes plenty of new magic tricks to dazzle her friends and her little brother, complete with a magic wand and potions!
