While I consider myself an active person, aside from walking I wasn't that active during my pregnancy. I recently got the ok to start working out again, and while I was excited to get moving, I also knew that I was totally out of shape where I was nervous to start exercising again. To jump right in, I recently enjoyed my first bout with working out again this past weekend when I enjoyed the Uplifting Fitness Fest at ATHLETA in NYC.
This kicked off with a 45-minute signature BodyConceptions class that was lead by Mahri Relin. Within minutes she had has moving and dancing to the beat of an in-house DJ that was signified by her full-body lengthening and sculpting method. It felt fantastic to move and extend my tired limbs as I bopped around to the music and tuned in to Mahri's energetic personality. As she guided our group with the movements, I loved how revitaliing it felt I was targeting multiple muscles that used scuplting, cardio and stretching.

After the dance workout, I listened to Randi Zinn, founder of Beyond Mom, lead a discussion that encouraged the group to cultivate a life "beyond being a mom. This included tips on fostering a community and discovering movement as well as a life that embraces the gifts of motherhood but expresses all we are as individuals. I loved hearing her powerful messaging that focused on connecting and meeting likeminded women while also being a mom. It is so important not to lose a part of your self when you become a mom, and I love how Randi has created a network where women get together and connect beyond life with kids.
Additionally, the event included tasty treats from Chef Jenne Claiborne of The Nourishing Vegan, drinks by Code Blue, and a sampling of some of Mio Skincare products - making for an incredible and inspiring morning of movement, style and connectivity that was just the kick-start I needed as I embark back into my post-baby fitness routine.
