Momtrends was recently invited by Jenny Altman from 'I Love A Good' to attend a bra fitting for Lucy's new Girls Best Friend Bra as well as a preview of their Holiday 2013 collection. As someone who has two letters in her bra size and who takes part in high impact activities like running, the concept of this new bra intrigued me. The Girls Best Friend Bra looks like lingerie, acts like structural engineering and promises advanced bounce-control. What more could a fit fashionable girl ask for!
As I have lost a significant amount of weight in the last 4 months (20 lbs to be exact!) I was a little unsure of my bra size. Jenny was a Stylist and Fashion Editor for Oprah, Lucky, People StyleWatch and InStyle, so I was thankful she was there to offer up bra fitting tips.
Bra Fitting Tips from Jenny Altman
Bend and shake test: So I started out by trying what I thought might be my current bra size, hoping I had gone from a DD to a D. But when Jenny came in to look at the fit she made me bend over to shake the girls into place.
Lift and separate: After bending, you should be able to separate the girls, they shouldn't be squished together. This is especially important when you are working out at the gym, the last thing you want is a hot, sticky trapped space for sweat to collect. I couldn't separate in the D, but could in the DD and the fit was remarkably more comfortable. So, yes even with weight loss I am still a DD.
Wash and care: Jenny suggests hand washing bras, but at a minimum line drying if you must use the washing machine.
What a girl wants: Just because you are sweating it out at the gym or in a group fitness class, doesn't mean you can't look fashionable. The Lucy Girls Best Friend Bra separates, lifts and keeps the girls looking natural. All of high importance Jenny points out, especially if you are a single girl gym goer - you never know when you'll meet Mr Right.
Putting A Girls Best Friend to the Test
Once I was fitted, I had a taste test of a Cross-X class where I did lots of jumping, kicks, lunges and supermans in 90 second intervals, all while wearing my new best friend and being encourage by trainer Nate. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised how well the bra held up to the test. Their was no jiggle and the wide padded straps did not dig into my shoulders. The encapsulating cups reduce bounce, the racer back adds high-impact support and the bra features breathability thanks to mesh lined cups. Best of all you get the support of an underwire, but it is actually wire-free. The bonded under bust band not only keeps the girls up, but reduces chafing too.
In stores now, the Girls Best Friend Bra has joined the ranks of one of my go-to bras for medium to high impact workouts. Check out lucy.com for more information and follow along on Facebook for sneak peeks of their upcoming Holiday line - I'm a fan of their soft, moisture wicking polka dot line of cropped pants and workout shirts and looking forward to them hitting the shelves later this year.
