We just discovered a fantastic new nursing dress line. As busy moms we want clothes that looks great but also pieces that are functional. One of our favorites is Alison Britt, mother of three and entrepreneur who is committed to manufacturing beautiful, well-made nursing clothes in a socially responsible, sustainable way that supports her local community.
Alison didn’t set out to make nursing clothes. The inspiration for her designs came out of necessity when her third child, Dylan, was born. Alison wanted something functional and feminine to wear, something that allowed for nursing with discretion. Nothing in her closet fit the bill, so she reinvented one of her favorite dresses to meet her needs.
The Alison Britt line of nursing wear is made from soft, sustainable bamboo modal. The design of the spring line emphasizes flowing lines that flatter while enabling discreet breastfeeding. The innovative design allows women to breastfeed on the go without concern about showing more than they want.
We recently tested out the line and I loved how beautiful and well-made the clothing was as well as how it had a commitment to social responsibility. This includes a slow clothing process that is made with care and crafted by excellent seamstresses in North Carolina from the finest material, her pieces are timeless classics that will help mothers feel beautiful when they care for their babies.
Some of our favorite styles include the Dress from the Dylan line that comes in black, coffee, plum and sea glass that is super soft and made with high quality materials so you can feel great wearing it. We also love the perfect poncho that is great for nursing or pregnant - whose style can be mixed up in a variety of ways.
For the manufacture of her line, Alison is drawing on the talents of Opportunity Threads, a worker-owned cut and sew company in Morganton, NC. Alison and Opportunity Threads share a commitment to high quality, sustainable production, and fair compensation for the skilled workers who produce her designs.
In addition to her passion for making mothers feel both comfortable and beautiful wherever they choose to breastfeed, Alison is committed to helping all mothers and children in our local communities thrive by supporting the work of non-profits. Quarterly, Alison highlights the important work of a non-profit and donate 3% of her profits to support its mission.
