Hospital Bag Essentials

With all of the excitement of life with baby comes the planning mode. As I get closer to my own due date that means prepping for the hospital by packing a bag with all of my essentials. From what the baby will wear to the bag we love, and even some snacks, here are some of our favorite essentials to pack during your stay at the hospital.

I See Me: We are huge fans of the beautifully illustrated and meaningful stories from online publisher, I See Me. As a hospital bag essential, we think that it is a great gift for other kids as they become older siblings. This includes favorites like My Very Own Name StorybookGoodnight Little Me Storybook and Hello World! Personalized Board Book for the new baby - all of which can be personalized with your child or new baby's name and birthdate.

Belabumbum: Featuring gorgeous loungewear pieces for pregnancy and new moms, we are packing the super comfy Mei Nursing Chemise that features a delicate coral lace trim and one-handed drop-down nursing clip. We also love the sweet Starlit Mom & Baby Gift Set that includes a cotton nightie for mom and matching unisex baby outfit in Belabumbum’s Starlit print. For our nursing, we also love the beautiful Lotus Nursing Bra that provides ample support thanks to its multiple back sizing options.

CVS: From snacks to beauty needs, we stocked up our hospital bag with essentials from CVS. This includes a delicious selection of preservative-free snacks from their Gold Emblem Abound line such as Granola bars and almonds to stay energized and satisfied. We also packed the CVS/pharmacy Vitamin A&D Ointment for Diaper Rash + Skin Protection, CVS/pharmacy Hand Sanitizer with Ointment (for guests to clean hands before holding the baby) and CVS/pharmacy Chap-Block to keep our lips moisturized during labor.

Huggies: Wipes and diapers are an essential all new parents will need pretty quickly. We are packing some in our bag to be prepared when we bring our baby home. This includes their newborn diapers that feature a GentleAbsorb* Liner that offers your baby a layer of protection as well as having a wetness indicator so that you can keep track of wet diapers by changing color when wet. We also love their wipes including the chic Huggies Clutch ‘n’ Clean* wipes where you can effortlessly wipe up any messes thanks to their triple clean layers. They are also super soft, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and made with vitamin E- making them ideal for your baby's skin.

Aden + Anais: We love the collection of muslin swaddles from Aden+Anais where you can instantly keep your baby protected. Made of high-quality materials, we also love their cute prints that can later be used as a light blanket, stroller cover and more.

Finn and Emma: To bring baby home, we love Finn and Emma, a brand of 100% organically grown baby clothing, toys and accessories for little ones up to 18 months. We love their new unisex collection where you can discover playful yet modern jungle prints in gender neutral colors including tan, brown, yellow, and mint. With everything from footies to kimono tops and bodysuits, these contemporary pieces make the perfect alternative to the traditional pink and blue wardrobe options for little ones. To bring baby home, we love the Jungle Bodysuit with its sweet grey print and yellow trim that also includes lead and nickle-free snaps that is made with low-impact dyes.

How to Build Your Maternity Capsule Wardrobe

How to Build Your Maternity Capsule Wardrobe

As a stylist who has been pregnant twice now, I love styling maternity outfits. But expectant moms often find this challenge daunting. They’ll tell me they have no idea what to wear, what to buy, or when to “give in” to maternity clothes during pregnancy. So let’s debunk all the more

Vera Bradley: For the actual bag, we love the collection of styles and prints from Vera Bradley. As a 32-year-old company, you can find everything from large bags like the Travel Tote to a classic Backpack Baby Bag.

Canon® PowerShot™ Digital Camera:To capture those memories, we love using a traditional camera and one of our favorites is the Canon PowerShot Digital Camera. This includes a 8x 28mm wide-angle lens takes you up close for detail and out wide for group shots. Additional features of the camera allow you to shoot high-definition video, capture scene and fun modes such as Super Vivid, Poster Effect & Miniature Effect add an artistic look to your shots. A fantastic way to capture this precious moments, you will love the crisp and gorgeous pictures from your first days with your baby.

Here are some more ideas on what to pack:

  • A pillow. Hospital pillows stink. They are synthetic and flat as a pancake.
  • Your breastfeeding pillow (if you plan to breastfeed).
  • Thick socks or comfy slippers.
  • Lip balm & hand lotion (for some reason hospitals are always dry).
  • A extra empty bag (or two) for gifts and goodies from your stay (the hospital will often supply a load of diapers, an aspirator, thermometer, etc.).
  • Don’t even kid yourself into believing you’ll be back into your old jeans–bring loose fitting clothes for the ride home.
  • Your baby book–have the doctors, nurses and friends sign it.
  • Don’t forget the car seat!
