A few days ago I had the chance to check out a screening of the ultimate movie for summer with a preview of the Way Way Back. Starring Steve Carrell, Toni Collette, Sam Rockwell, Allison Janney, and Amanda Peet, the movie highlights the summer experience (and its many ups and downs) of Duncan (Liam Douglas) as he spends his summer vacation in Trent's (Steve Carrell) summer house.
During the film I found myself laughing, crying and deeply moved by this poignant coming of age tale, and being that I was covering this for Momtrends I was also struck by the fun fashions that really reflected the unique personalities of all of the characters. Featuring looks from some of the major characters in the movie, here is how you can get your own Way Way Back summer look.
As a 14-year-old, Duncan's summer look is plaid shirts and shorts. He also rocks his Water Wizz water park outfit later in the movie, but for this fashion, I picked out a collection of Plaid Poplin Shirts and regular fit jeans from Old Navy. Oh, and you can't forget Duncan's bike and my favorite for him is the Titan Girl's Flower Princess BMX Bike from Target.
Another character that I loved was Caitlin (Maya Rudolph) who works in the Water Wizz water park with Duncan and Sam Rockwell (Owen). While we mainly see her in her uniform, there are a few items where she gets to showcase her easy breezy summer look. For her look, I would suggest the Cadiz Dress, the Semi Precious Stone Necklace that can be paired with the Fun Shopper and some Strappy Sandals from Boden.
As the mom of Duncan, and new girlfriend to Trent (Steve Carrell), Pam (Toni Collette) has a lot of complex emotions to deal with, but she also understands casual summer style and my favorite look of hers is the head scarf that is seen throughout the movie. For her look, I picked the gorgeous scarves from Echo Design that combine the perfect mix of fashion with comfort. Some of my favorite designs for Pam's look would be the cubana oversized silk scarf and bold poppies scarf that we would pair with a relaxed lemlem® Walsh gauze kaftan cover-up from J.Crew.
Best Discoveries When Exploring Bend Oregon
I was completely charmed by my trip to Bend, Oregon. It's a blend of desert and mountain and incredibly cool. The vibe is small town and hip, but it's certainly on the move (they seem to be adding 10,000 new people every year). I made a few new discoveries when exploring Bend and ...read more

The complex relationship of a mother/daughter is also seen in the movie through newly single mom, Betty (Allison Janney) and her daughter Susanna (AnnaSophia Robb). For teenager girl, Susana (who also happens to have caught the eye of Duncan), I would suggest the Skylar High Waist Denim Short and cool graphic tees like the Mint Puff Heart Tee and the Elephant Mirage Tee from delia's. As for confident mama, Betty I picked the Allen B.® Cinch-Front Bandeau Swimdress and the Studio 36 Etched Bias-Striped Pareo Cover-Up from Jcpenney.
This is just a small taste of the summer fashions that you will see in the incredible movie, Way Way Back. A perfect movie for the summer, the movie will take you back to your own youth as you experience Duncan's poignant summer.
