While I love to travel with my kids, there are certain aspects of being on-the-go that are very challenging. One of the biggest challenges that I have consistently experienced (other than tackling the 'Are we there yet?' slew of questions) is the food. For kids this generally means greasy high calorie food with very little nutrition. I am all for 'fun food' on vacation, but I also would like menus to reflect that of what a modern parent is (trying) to feed their kids.
Well, that is all changing thanks to the innovative For Kids by KIds menu at the Hyatt. As a partnership with young chef, Hallie Thomas they have handpicked and created a menu featuring fun, fresh and flavorful foods that kids will love. This includes Hallie's signature dish, Salmon Teriyaki, Organic Turkey Burgers, Fruit and Yogurt, Top Your Own Taco, Create Your Own Pasta, Sunbutter, Jelly and Banana Sandwich, and much more. This is a far cry from the chicken fingers and french fries that are typically on a kids' menu where the Hyatt offers diverse and seasonal offering to get kids excited about food as well as to focus on nutrition. They also have an organic menu featuring items from Alice Waters. As the founder of the Edible Schoolyard Project, she added organic and seasonal items to the menu which currently includes Grilled Chicken with Pesto, Strawberry and Orange Slices and a Romaine Salad.
At the event, they also spoke of a cool contest called the For Kids By Kids Family Cook-Off that they launched where they are asking families to share their favorite breakfast recipe for a chance to win a stay at a Hyatt Hotel or Resort. To enter simply show off your cooking skills and create a new breakfast dish. Then share your recipe and a photo on facebook/Hyatt. The winning recipe will also be added to their For Kids by Kids menu! Good luck - the contest closes on July 31, 2013.
The unique menu options from the Hyatt now allows kids and adults to have healthy, satisfying and fun menu choices that will make traveling with your kids that much more flavorful.
