While we believe in doing some for the earth everyday, Earth Day (April 22nd) is a great way to do even more as well as learn about brands that are doing their part. From fashion to beauty to kids' products, here are some of our favorite earth-friendly products:
Clothes for Kids:
To show your love for Earth Day, we love Brooklyn-based, Hiho Batik where you can discover a fun collection of handmade t-shirts featuring earth and nature-inspired prints such as the cool DJ Earth and Big Flower bag.
For pajamas, we are big fans of the super soft eco-friendly line, SkylarLuna. Some of our favorites are the Gray/Black/Peper Long Sleeve Pajamas and the Fish Short Sleeves Pajamas - all of which are made from Turkish organic cotton that feature cute and on-trend prints.
For new brands, we love Grey Label, a simple line of multi usage clothing for kids where you can discover jumpsuits, hoody sweaters, baggy pants, dresses, tees and cardigans, but even a kite, a diaper bag, raw edged booties and many more. With a minimalist perspective in mind, the line features organic clothing in basic colors like light-grey, dark-grey and black. According to founder, Emily Grey, this offers kids a "plain and sustainable range, in a world where there are already too many bright and screaming colours and prints."
Burt's Bees Baby has some of our favorite organic and affordable finds for kids. This includes their new SPRING arrivals where you can discover ruffle tanks, boatneck tees & dresses, and chambray for girls – and v-neck solid tees, v-neck dip dye tees & critter board shorts for BOYS. They also have a cute underbees line that features soft and cozy 100% organic underwear collection features little ruffled undies, boxers, camisoles, leggings and more. Some of our favorites are the Toddler Butterfly Racerback Play Dress and the Rugby Boy Short.
For bringing lunches (or any food on-the-go), we love PlanetBox, the first and only green, stainless steel, dishwasher safe, all-in-one lunchbox. This is a great solution for busy families were you can pack away healthy and quick lunches in easy compartments. They also use zip-locks or disposable food containers and trying to figure out how to fit Additionally, their unique portion control lunch boxes help save time, costs and calories, and help prevent uneaten food from rotting in landfills. The Rover has lots of smaller compartments for little kids while the Launch is perfect for older kids and adults.
When running around with the kids, we love to carry around a SIGG bottle. One of our favorites is their collaboration with Cuipo, a social enterprise whose mission is rainforest conservation through creative brand campaigns. This now includes six new designs for the entire family (two adults and four children styles) inspired by Cuipo and their initiative to save the rainforest. I love how these cute aluminum bottles features a clever design and a cute character that signifies action (such as "the Original Tree Hugger")— for each bottle sold, Cuipo will save one meter of the rainforest. Additionally, SIGG's are 100% recyclable at the end of their long life due to their aluminum composition. The Cuipo inspired SIGG bottles will be available for purchase online at mysigg.com and in Whole Foods Markets nationwide in Spring 2014 and will retail between $18.99-22.99 depending on size. You may see the entire Cuipo collection at http://www.mysigg.com/category/cuipo.
Another favorite are the BPA-free glasses bottles from Lifefactory. Offering a spill proof cap, you can always be hydrated on-the-go that also featured a raised grip. This also includes options for baby, kids and you with a straw cap style, flip cap and classic cap.
For a one-stop shop for all of your eco-friendly baby needs we love Earth Baby. On this site you can discover everything from sunscreen, teethers, diapers and more. Personally, I love their bottles with my favorite being their Hybrid Glass Bottle Starter Kit that includes a non-toxic glass that is also BPA, phthalate and PVC free.Aleva Naturals, who just launched convenient tooth and gum wipes to safely clean your little ones teeth and gums while at home or on-the-go.
To start your babies off to cleaning their teeth, we love the eco-friendly Bamboo Baby Tooth N’ Gum Wipes. These fluoride-free and unbleached bamboo wipes are made from all-natural, plant-based ingredients as they work to wipe baby’s teeth and gums after every feeding to promote long-lasting healthy oral hygiene habits. For some comfort with your baby, we love the The Stokke® MyCarrier Cool. This breathable carrier is designed for three positions (inward, outward and back carrying) as it is designed to reduce heat and moisture to keep both you and baby cool and dry.

Some of our favorites are the Greenicare® Organic Baby Moisturizing Lotion and the Greenicare® Organic Baby Diaper Ointment that only uses the ingredients your baby needs.
The winter has wrecked havoc on my hands and feet, so I was happy to find a natural product that works with Keep Buzzin’ Body Products. Each brush comes encased in a magnetic box fashioned out of recycled egg cartons, the super-soft synthetic brush hair (doesn’t hold on to stinky bacteria the way porous animal hair does) is made from recycled PET bottles, and the sleek gunmetal brush handles are recycled aluminum. We love the chic eco-friendly flats from Soft Star Shoes. Made by using buttery-soft leather for a comfy fit while food-grade dyes are used to add fashionable pops of color, Soft Star Shoes’ are durable yet flexible sole conforms to the wearers sole for an almost barefoot feeling. We also love that the shoes are made-to-order, so each kid’s personality can come through as they can choose the style, color and details of the shoe. Made by hand in their Oregon workshop, they only use natural, formaldehyde-free leather colored with non-toxic food grade dye as they are designed to be spacious and flexible to allow natural movement and foot function. They also offer amazing styles for the whole family with some of our favorites being the Adult Ballerine Flat - Shiny Platinum for women and the Baby Roo Moccasin - Shiny Platinum with Fringe for babies.
For those that wear glasses, we love the chic bamboo frames from eyebobs. This includes frames like the Oh Shoot and the Sugar Cane styles- both of which are made with a eco-chic sustainable bamboo temple.
One of our favorite fashion brands, Eileen Fisher recently launched their biggest eco conscious collection to date - with 52% of the total being part of the eco collection and 70% of the cotton used in the entire line being organic. This season EILEEN FISHER is changing the fashion industry – one garment at a time. The collection is filled with organic cotton boyfriend jeans to the coveted crop top that is bluesign® certified. This includes a line that starts with clean water, clean air and a healthy environment for workers and wildlife as a well as mission to increase their organic fiber usage by 10% per year.
We love how fashions meets sustainable needs in the new line, tentree. This environmental company plants ten trees for every item purchased where they have already planted over 1,000,000 trees (with pre-bookings will be over 3,500,000 before end of the year). This includes a fun line for women and men with some of our favorites being the foreshore and take flight that are great addition to your summer wardrobe.
Flip flops are a staple of summer, and our favorite for Earth Day is the first-ever 100% recyclable and renewable sandals from Manduka. The chic Onward Sandals ($40), available for both men and women, are made from Manduka's new fully renewable and recyclable LiveOn Mats. After years of practicing on the mat, yogis will ship their old mats to PLUSFoam headquarters to convert the material into new, wearable comfy sandals. We also love their chic color and how comfortable and airy they are - making them ideal for whatever adventures you have this summer.
Another favorite is Gaiam and while we love them for all of our fitness essentials, they also have an incredible collection of sustainable clothing like the Open Weave Tunic, Watercolor-Stripe Kaftan, and Linen Panel Dress for summer.
Not all toy's are made in a factory. In fact, we just discovered a new brand called Retrash, founded by Australian eco-entrepreneur Nathan Devine, that is a project that aims to build a global community of parents and individuals that make useful things out of seemingly useless trash. This includes a mission to repurpose trash, and has even created a book to document the stories of art, toys, and even hotels, that use repurposed materials.
Home Cleaning Essentials:
For the home, we recommend the super power P7 Portable 4 Bar Pressure Hand-Held Steam Cleaner from Reliable. This environmentally-friendly product only uses to water as it can power steam and clean bacteria/germs, bed bugs, dust mites, helps control allergies and eliminates grime. We love this for everyday cleaning with toys (plastic and plush), binkies, strollers as well as for fabrics, including upholstery and mattresses, and de-wrinkle clothes. The best part is that it uses no chemicals and leaves your items deodorized and sanitized.
For hardwood floor cleaning, we love the new Bona Hardwood Floor Wet Cleaning Pads and Bona Wood Furniture Polish. For the Cleaning Pads, we love how they get deep into floors to clean as the first layer mechanically loosens dirt while the second layer absorbs the dirt. A final layer traps moisture and dirt inside the pad to ensure minimal liquid remains on the hardwood floors. Additionally, this extra-wide disposable pad is 50 percent larger than the typical pads and tools on the market today making cleaning that much faster and easier. As for the polish, it leaves no waxy build up or residue, just a rich shine that enhances the natural beauty of wood furniture. Additionally, it resists fingerprints and repels water rings with a fast-dry, no-dulling residue protective layer. In line with Bona’s heritage of keeping its products mindful of the environment, the Bona Wood Furniture Polish is non-aerosol which is more environmentally friendly and non- flammable.
