I am a nursing mama for the third time and the major difference this time around is that I have clothing that makes it easy, convenient and discreet to nurse my baby whenever she needs. Long gone are the old standbys of cardis and tanks that seemingly were the only option for nursing moms. Whether you prefer side slits, cross-over tops that pull to the side or tops that offer an extra top layer, I have found several brands that offer fashionable nursing tops.
Here's a look at my favorites:
Au Lait Shop: I love the sexy, soft and subtle looks of the Au Lait Shop line. Au Lait Shop offers the ulitmate in chic yet totally wearable sophisiticated nursing finds. My latest crush is the new LBND (little black nursing dress as I call it). It is so comfortable, looks like I put a lot of effort into getting ready when I didn't and is just as cool dressed down as it is pretty when I am all dolled up. With discreet side-seam nursing slits, the dress is a nursing mamas dream come true. (I was privvy to a sneak peak, hang on, it's making its spring debut soon!) I have gotten tons of use out of my Au Lait pieces especially the two in one tee dress (HERE I am wearing it in my 9th month of pregnancy, and I am still loving the great style it offers!). The Au Lait shop nursing and breastfeeding line offers three discreet styles to nurse in comfort, ease and sophisticated style.
Boob Design: Despite a not so discreet brand name, the nursing tops from Boob Design have to be some of my favorite and definitely "go to" nursing tops. The fabrics are soft, thick and durable all while being made from eco friendly fibers and dyes. I love that each piece is easy to wear, casual yet not sloppy. I opted for bright colors and simple styles that I could easily dress up with a blazer, cardi or scarf. The Boob Design's innovative extra top layer comes right under the bustline and makes for easy nursing. I love the Simone, 3/4 length striped tee that I can wear with either jeans or skinny black pants I feel like I am dressed in "normal" clothes all while being able to nurse whenever and wherever I need to.
BURU: Finally a site completely dedicated to nursing moms! If you are in need of fashionable, functional and really stylish nursing wear, you'll love all of your choices at BURU. One of the biggest complaints my office working moms complain about is that they can't find work appropriate clothing that is equally pumping ready and fabulous. At BURU you'll find a variety of nursing wear from your favorite designers. BURU offers handpicked, ready to wear and stylish nursing wear styles that are on trend and don't even hint that they're anything but fashionable pieces. You'll easily be able to wear each piece long after you've weaned your little one.
Envie de Fraises: For sexy basics that show off your curves, I love Envie de Fraises. I wore many of their pieces during my pregnancy and I love that I can still get use out of some of the tops as I continue to nurse my daughter. Envie de Fraises has go to basics in a variety of colors to create an easy mix and match wardrobe full of close-fit fashionable nursing tops and dresses. The lines are classic, silhouettes clean, but the look is flattering, comfortable and stylish in its simplicity.
Mother's En Vogue: There's nothing like being able to feed your baby all while knowing that the fibers that are so close to her skin are free of harmful chemicals. Mothers En Vogue offers a full line of eco-friendly nursing tops and dresses, whether you're looking for soft breathable cotton (a big plus while enduring those ever-changing hormones), Modal, a natural fiber that withstands endless washings, flexible fibers like silk and rayon, or the most natural and safest fabric options like organic cotton or sustainable bamboo. I have gotten a ton of use out of the "Must Have" nursing dress, it is comfy, cozy and looks great with tights, boots and my cropped denim jacket. At Mothers En Vogue you'll find endless possibilities at an attractive pricepoint.
