As a family of four it is very challenging to take pictures with all of us together. On holidays and special occasions we might get one. One way to capture these moments is by using a professional photographer and we recently did so when we worked with the wonderful Jane Goodrich of Jane Goodrich Photography.
As a professional newborn and child photographer who works as both a high-end family photographer and also on commercial accounts for New York City ad agencies, Jane was a great fit for our family as she combined her professionalism with her lighthearted and fun personality that made our shoot exciting and tons of fun for my daughters.
The process started where Jane and I worked together to brainstorm some ideas for a location. I knew I wanted to be outside, and use our borough as the backdrop. She suggested the area around the Brooklyn Bridge Park and Jane's Carousel and I knew that was the perfect idea as it combined something fun for my girls and an aesthetic that I was looking for.
Best Discoveries When Exploring Bend Oregon
I was completely charmed by my trip to Bend, Oregon. It's a blend of desert and mountain and incredibly cool. The vibe is small town and hip, but it's certainly on the move (they seem to be adding 10,000 new people every year). I made a few new discoveries when exploring Bend and ...read more
Is a Vizsla a Good Dog for Your Family?
Long before COVID arrived, our family decided we were ready for a dog. I grew up with dogs and knew my girls would gain a lot from the experience of owning a pet. Vizslas are wonderful and gorgeous dogs that require a ton of exercise and lot of time. Like me, you might wonder, ...read more

Leading up the shoot we exchanged several emails about what we should and shouldn't wear with suggestions like "make sure that the clothes are timeless as possible" as well as suggestions for the tones of the clothes that we should pick. She also let us know what to expect, gave us some prep tips (clean our kids' boogers) and let us know that the shoot would run around 2 hours, which was helpful to plan the girls meals as well as the rest of the day.
The day of the shoot we meet Jane at the area near the Brooklyn Bridge Park, and I instantly loved her high-energy and excitement that made my girls equally at ease. During the process with them, she was silly by making animal noises to get my younger daughter to smile as well as effectively able to communicate with my older daughter who took to posing during the shoot. They also loved the "breaks" where they had the chance to enjoy the nearby carousel and park as Jane captured them in their natural element.
After the experience, the girls said they had a lot of fun and I was amazed at how easy and stress-free it was. Jane was under control, and she managed the whole day beautifully. The result is clear as I look over the pictures and see the magical moments of that day as they mixed with the moments with my family. I also loved how her "eye" caught my girls in a way that I have never been able to - showcasing their playful faces and sheer joy in those moments.
While taking pictures with all four of us is challenging, a worthwhile investment to capture your family is to use a professional like Jane Goodrich, a lighthearted, skilled and incredible photographer who created pictures that I will always treasure.
