We are so excited to share the news about Pencils of Promise (“PoP”), the for-purpose organization founded by Adam Braun in 2008, who recently announced the launch of their annual Back to School campaign to help ensure that children throughout the world have access to a quality education.

Currently less than 40% of students living in developing communities enroll in secondary school largely due to the cost. Donations to the scholarship campaign will help send up to 1,600 students in PoP’s partner communities in Laos, Guatemala and Ghana back to school.

Every year of school brightens the promise of a child’s future. Pencils of Promise scholarships give students the resources they need for a full year of secondary school. A $250 scholarship covers a year of education costs for a child enrolled in PoP schools including uniforms, backpacks, supplies, transportation, and dormitory fees. When the opportunity for an education is made a reality, the impact on a student’s life is immeasurable.

From now through October 3rd, visit www.pencilsofpromise.org/backtoschool to support PoP in sending 1,600 students back to school. Thanks to support from an anonymous donor, $5 will be donated to the campaign for every social media post with the hashtag #GiveBackToSchool on Instagram and Twitter, up to $25,000.

To donate to the cause:

  • Snap or find a photo of your favorite “first day”
  • Tag the post with #GiveBackToSchool
  • Share on Instagram or Twitter between 2:00pm ET on August 12th and 11:59pm ET on September 5th, 2014
  • Or visit www.pencilsofpromise.org/backtoschool

New to this year’s Back to School program, supporters ages 13+ that create a Back to School fundraising page will be entered to win a $500 scholarship. The $500 scholarships are eligible to students in the U.S. and will be awarded weekly during the eight week campaign.
