The Super Bowl is tomorrow—are you ready for the big game?? Last week we shared three beer-based cocktails that you can make for your football guests since you're likely to have beer on hand anyway. Today, we're sharing two delicious team-pride punches you can make in bulk.
Super Bowl punches—one Falcon red, one Patriot blue—can let your guests show their respective team pride with their cocktail too. Just be sure to use real glasses or see-through plastic so your guest can show their true colors.
Falcon Fans: Kalimotxo
The Kalimotxo cocktail is famously common in the Basque region and throughout Spain. It's ridiculously simple, and there's a chance you already have the ingredients on hand. To make it—stay with me here—you mix dry red wine and cola. I know, I know. It sounds like something your teenage self would sneak at a party and feel grown up. But check out the comments here—people rave about and it, and it seems to be popular in places as varied as Spain, Croatia, Italy and Chile. Supposedly, the key is this: Use cheap red wine. Now that's an ideal option when you're pouring drinks for a crowd. Plus, it will go so well with any of these salty, cheesy, spicy Super Bowl appetizers.
- 3 cups red wine (preferably NOT expensive)
- 2 cups cola cola
- lots of ice
1. Pour ingredients into a pitcher and stir. Pour into individual glasses and serve.
Patriot Promoters: Shark Attack
As in most blue cocktails, this Shark Attack punch gets its color from Blue Curaçao, a fruity liquor flavored with the dried peels of the Laraha orange. But it also gets additional blue hue from blueberry schnapps. Combined with vodka, lemonade, water, and ice, you'll get the perfect blue Patriot punch for New England fans. I also love that this Yummly recipe allows you to adjust the proportions based on how many servings you want to make. The amounts below will make enough to serve 12.
- 1/3gallons vodka
- 125milliliters blue curaçao
- 125milliliters schnapps (Blueberry)
- 1/3gallons lemonade
- 1/3gallons water
- Mix all together in a large bowl.
Who will win? You—if you make these winning punches. Looking for something different? Check out our archive of Saturday Sip cocktails.
