The mornings are crisp. The leaves are red. That can only mean one thing - it's time for cider! While I caved and bought the kids a bottle of Trader Joe's Spiced Cider yesterday, I've be enjoying a few flavors from the Angry Orchard Hard Cider collection. Whether you're brand new to hard cider, want an easy fall cocktail to create or are feeling a little under the weather, I've got some yummy ways to enjoy hard cider this fall.
Before I learned to like beer, I'd had a handful of hard ciders, and while they were tasty at first, many got too cloying sweet by the bottom of the glass. But here's the thing I learned about hard cider this week - ciders have gotten better. And there are all different kinds of flavors. There are some that are sweeter and some that spicy. Some are bright and very apple-y while others are blended with complementary flavors like ginger or cinnamon to make them perfect for fall.
While each of these ciders is intriguing on it's own. You can also make some fall-icious cocktails with them too. Here are some Angry Orchard varieties I tried this week - plus two fun fall cocktails to make with them. One light and refreshing to pair with a leaf-crunching walk; the other a warm drink to ward off a cold or bad mood.
Crisp Apple: If you're new to hard cider, start with this basic one. With a bright, crisp flavor, it’s just like biting into a fresh fall apple. This variety has a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness and dryness. It paired perfectly with brie, crackers and dried fruit. Or you can get creative and whip up a refreshing Angry Pom Squeeze that blends the hard cider and our favorite POM pomegranate juice.
Ready for hard cider level two?
Cinnful Apple: Ready for a cider with some kick? You'll love Cinnful Apple. It's sweet and smooth with just the right amount of cinnamon spice. Pairing this with a warm ginger cookie and a roaring fire is just what this weekend calls for! Or if you want even more of a warm up (or are feeling the sniffles coming on), try the Orchard Hot Toddy recipe below.
