Board Game Round Up

There's lots of board games out there and I wanted to shed some light on the difference between "board game" and being "bored" while playing a game. Here's our top picks to play while out on your deck (or roof) enjoying the warm summer weather.

A kid-friendly version of the poker game "Indian" and "20 Questions", Headbanz is great way to get the whole family gaming. The point of the game is to get the person wearing the headband to guess what their card is by asking a series of yes and no questions. It gets children curious about asking questions and helps them formulate observations and strategy. By making connections and coming up with questions that will lead to answers, kids will also practice creative critical thinking skills. Good, silly fun for everyone. $14.99 on Amazon

Pomegranate Mimosa

Always brunch! And what better cocktail to have with brunch than a mimosa? With the holidays quickly approaching, gatherings will be happening more frequently as we focus more on quality time with family and friends. If you have little ones like I do, evenings can be hard to pull more

So, I was immediately attracted to this game since it is, of course, all about the theater! (insert appropriate "thespian" accent). While it is quite fun and served as memorable entertainment for me and my other actor friends, it's not actually playable for kids ages 8+ as the box states. I would love a game like this targeted for a younger age group, but there are too many references involved in this one that would not be appropriate to discuss. Save this one for your teens. I know this one doesn't technically count as a board game, but trust me when I tell you that it's fun, easy, and addicting. Because there's absolutely no strategy involved, it's a game that can be played by anyone in your family, even your little one. All you need to do is pick up the 10 cubes and roll. There are three colors: red, yellow, and green. The point is to roll as many greens as possible. You can keep playing unless you roll more red than any other color. You might have to help little hands hold all the die, but they'll love throwing them on the table and the reactions that will follow. Perfect for on-the-go or stay at home.
