While I enjoyed my kid-free birthday walk immensely today, I'm a huge fan of bringing city kids out into the woods. Of course they need supervision--and the littlest ones need a boost. One of the greatest gifts we've ever received as parents was a Kelty Frame Child Carrier.
My brother gave us ours five years ago--when I was pregnant with girl #1. Season in, season out, we use this sturdy carrier more that just about any other baby gear we've accumulated. The lightweight frame is fully adjustable with a 5-point harness. I can carry my 2 year old for about 30 minutes in this carrier and Mr. Momtrends is comfortable for 2+ hours. So we are covered on our longest hikes. A kickstand makes loading and unloading a breeze. There are heaps of details--to many to mention but I will add that we also love the shoulder padding, the secure seat, and that the child peaks above mom or dad to see the world in his or her perch. At this point our carrier has probably logged in 300 miles! Not bad for city kids.
Our model is still going strong, but for new parents I recommend the new Kelty 2.0. Kelty has teamed up with REI on these new updates, including 3M reflective tape and cool trendy colors.
