Motherhood and beauty--do they go hand in hand? Next month we'll be focusing on beauty and style and to get things going we're announcing a What is Beauty series hosted by Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Advanced Anti-Aging Body Wash. A recent study shows that by taking good care of the skin on your body, you can look up to 10 years younger! Rather than just spew facts and statistics, I wanted to dig a little deeper.
Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Advanced Anti-Aging Body Wash generously decided to sponsor a four-part series on beauty and motherhood. To kick things off, I've nabbed an interview with Lindsay Ferrier. Over the next few weeks, I'll be talking to moms who I find both beautiful and inspiring. I met Lindsay at MomSummit 2.0. Her poise, and intellect are powerful--but to top it off she's radiant. Here's what Lindsay has to say...
When do you feel best about your body?
I feel best about my body when I'm eating healthy foods, exercising, and getting enough sleep. It's hard to do all three at once consistently!
Are you judgmental when it comes to your body?
Definitely. But I think I'm also realistic. I have no interest in spending 2 hours at the gym each day and sculpting a "perfect" body- so instead, I try to eat right, get the recommended amount of exercise per week, and fill my closet only with clothes I really feel good wearing.
Do you use a scale?
Oh yes. The scales don't lie! Sometimes that's a good thing... and sometimes it's not so good.
What makes you feel beautiful?
I feel most beautiful when my husband tells me I look good. His opinion of how I look is really the only one that matters to me.
Have you ever felt insecure about your body?
Of course! What woman hasn't? About a year ago, I was 16 pounds heavier than I am now and I wasn't happy at all about how I looked. I decided to eliminate carbs and sugars and it was the best "experiment" I ever tried- Not only did the weight come off quickly, but I had more energy than ever before! Now, I do an Atkins or South Beach-style "cleanse" of carbs and sugars every 2-3 months.

What would you tell a young girl to make her feel more confident about impending puberty?
I would tell her that every decade gets better and better. I'm more confident about my body at 35 than I was at 18. My mom felt her best years began at 40. Young girls need to know they have a lot to look forward to!
Has there been an age when you'??ve felt your most beautiful?
Right now. I think true beauty has to include wisdom and maturity, and I feel like I'm finally starting to get a hold on both of those things.
What do you think about how the media depicts the female body?
The media simply give us what we want. We might say we want to see women in magazines and movies who look like us, but the reality is that the most popular stars are all size two. That's our fault for buying more movie tickets and magazines that feature "impossibly" beautiful people-- not the media's fault.
