To say that the East Coast is growing weary of winter would be the understatement of the century. For most of us, the Polar Vortex maintains a tight grip. But there is a glimpse of hope for things sunny and bright to come on the fashion horizon--the Vera Bradley Rio Collection.
When the Vera Bradley delivery arrived with my doorman in Brooklyn, I couldn’t open the box fast enough. Seeing the gorgeous, beach-ready prints was like taking a mini vacation from the sub-arctic conditions I’ve been dealing with.
You see, I’m a girl that loves color. Yep, I’ve been living in New York City now for more than 15 years, but I simply can’t adhere to the black on black wardrobe that so many women adopt. I need to see pink, yellow, blue, red, and lilac. Living in a world of black and gray is just too dull. Vera Bradley’s accessories can perk up a closet like no other designer.
Getting to play with this collection (and by play I mean dig into my closet to see how I can incorporate this new print) was a blast. Rio is all about celebrating color. This is a bold, vibrant print that demands attention. Adding touches of the new Rio print was the PERFECT way to reinvent things I already own. Here’s how I styled myself for spring.
Warm weather means embracing sheath dresses too. The simplicity of this dress’s timeless silhouette is perfect for women who have a lot on their plates but still want to look stylish. With a sheath dress like the one in the feature, you just slip it on and then focus on accessories. Can you tell I’m a fan of the one-piece dressing concept?
Tucked inside my bag is the slim travel organizer. And the bag is the Resort Clearly Colorful Tote--a tote that is going to be seeing a lot of action this year. Roomy, light and bursting with color, this bag works with all the hues I’m planning to dive into for spring--pink, navy and bright daffodil yellow.
White jeans are a wardrobe staple. We’ve all got them--and probably have a pair we feel pretty great in. They are easy to dress up or down. For a casual day of shopping, strolling, and maybe grabbing a bite at a sea-side cafe, I paired my jeans with the oversized Rio scarf. I used my favorite tie--turing the scarf into a chic vest (go here for the video instructions: http://youtu.be/hep2hSpB4Po) I added a bright Flap Clutch in yellow faux leather--it’s the perfect size for travel and of course some splashy flip flops in the Rio Squiggle print.

I used the same white jeans in this outfit but changed up the top. I tossed on a linen jacket with a ombre scarf from the Rio Collection and the ultimate weekend getaway bag. The lightweight bag is a dream for packing. It’s got plenty of space and compartments--I was able to stash everything I needed for a weekend jaunt in the Expandable Travel Bag in Rio.
