top songs of summer ten years

Ah, summer music. It's meant to make you smile and groove and forget about your worries. As a mom, I live in two worlds--part of me remembers my youth and the music that helped define me. Part of me lives in the NOW, I listen to what my kids like and most of it I love, some of it makes me scratch my head, but, hey, when you see the top tunes from my youth you might be stumped as to what teens were thinking in the early 90s!

My nod to nostalgia was inspired by my Nutella® hazelnut spread's summer fun theme. All summer I've been noshing on Nutella® and trying to make some new memories. Since the spread is one of the best ways to play up the fruits of summer, it's the perfect way to celebrate the season and the tastiness of Nutella®. Fresh berries, outdoor picnics, Nutella® hazelnut spread and pop music all seem to go hand-in-hand.

This walk down musical memory lane made me giggle. Boy we liked some bad songs as teens! What do you think of the past ten years of tunes?

Can we have a re-vote for this year? I for one am loving the MKTO song Classic. (click here to see the video). The problem is the song released last year! Shows you what happens when you have kids. But it makes me so happen and the girls and I totally rock to this driving to swim practice....here we go.

Now so I can be really embarrassed by the music of my youth, here are the top tunes I listened to from summers in high school and college.

1985: "Shout" - Tears For Fears
I had no wheels except for my bike. I would ride all over with my Sony Walkman (yes kids, there was no nano to clip on my shirt). LOVED. THIS. SONG.
1986: "Papa Don't Preach" - Madonna
I wasn't a wanna-be. But I do think the lady can dance and gave us great songs for high school dances.
1987: "Alone" - Heart
Never understood the appeal. But this was my big R.E.M. phase.
1988: "Roll With It" - Steve Winwood
I thought this album was rockin'. Is my taste questionable?
1989: "Right Here Waiting" - Richard Marx
Painful.
1990: "Vision Of Love" - Mariah Carey
Well, you got to give Maria staying power she's been at it for decades.
1991: "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" - Bryan Adams
Cheesy.
1992: "Baby Got Back" - Sir Mix-A-Lot
Nope, not proud of this one.

Now it's your turn to weigh in. What are your guilty summer pleasures when it comes to music?
