The kids are off from school and you've got a long day ahead of you before Santa arrives (and then at least a week's worth of vacation days to plan). Why not get a little crafty? Momtrends says avoid the mad rush at the mall and visit your local office supply store, like Office Depot, for great deals on arts and crafts supplies and then try one of these three crafts.

Here are projects under $10 to help get you started:

Washable Tempera Paint=Train/Fort/Kitchen: I know you've got boxes sitting around from all those internet deliveries. Get out some paint and let the kids go to town making a train for Santa (or their teddy bears). If you are feeling super industrious, take on Martha Stewart's Cardboard Kitchen Tempura paint does not require any shaking or stirring and paint easily washes out of hands and clothing- no dirty hands for the kids! Certified AP non-toxic. Crayola 6 pack ($6.99). Might I suggest picking up a drop-cloth too!

Construction Paper Pad=Paper Chains: Heavyweight construction paper pad in assorted colors for making personalized holiday greeting cards and let us not forget the classic paper chain (I like to use glitter glue to decorate). It'??s also environmentally friendly and made from 90% recycled fiber. Pacon 50-sheet Glitter Pad ($3.47)

Art Tissue= Tissue Flowers: Perfect for gluing to paper plates, old glass jars or any other household item. I love the idea of making tissue paper flowers for the tree. Check out the craft details on Kaboose.Spectra Assorted pack $2.19

No one (not Office Depot or Martha) paid me for this post--it is a public service to moms and dads who need things to do!
