Although you may not notice it right away, tucked into the side of 36th Street and Ditmars Boulevard, The Little Soap Shop will certainly grab your attention with it's sweet smells wafting from within. This place is perfect for shopping for your holiday wish list.
A small table with samples and hand-crafted wares sits out front and when you walk in, you are greeted with a smile. No doubt, this store is tiny; yet you immediately sense an enormity in the potential of the delicately placed products. Soaps, oils, sugar and salt scrubs, and a plethora of gift-items like hand-sewn bags and accessories fill the room nicely. The owner of this petite boutique, Vivian Dritsas, is also the creative mind behind the array of interesting goods available.
Her imaginative "flavors" of soaps ($6), lotions, and oils will ignite your senses. If the thought of a washing your body with a Basil-Lime with Pumice and Corn Grits soap bar doesn’t peak your interest, than how about scrubbing with Egyptian Geranium & Sweet Orange Dead Sea Bath Salts? Vivian’s knowledge of natural ingredients mixed with her spunky disposition make for a fun experience alone. But give her lotion or handmade soap a try--you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results. Have a sore muscle? She can find you the perfect lavender scrub to aid your healing process. Stinky feet? She even has a bar to help cure that—mixed with tea tree oils, this soap bar contains anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.
The Lemon-Ginger bar with Dead Sea Salts is a customer favorite, as well as the Whipped Shay Body Butter in Moroccan Fig. The Sea Salt helps to exfoliate your skin and the lemon-ginger aids in moisturizing. Since it’s a bar, it will last quite a long time. Not only are there no synthetic materials used, all the products are packed with reusable or recycled materials. A little bonus: each week, there is a tiny bucket of different flavored soap chips for you to take and sample. Another fun feature is the selection of baskets available for you to fill yourself as a gift—perfect for the holidays!
