Recreating the Times Square "Kiss"
Make history come alive for your kids. Kissers of all ages are invited to join hundreds of couples from all walks of life to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II by re-creating the famous victory kiss between a U.S. sailor and nurse, Edith Shain, seen on LIFE Magazine. The Kiss-In will take place at the same Times Square spot as the original kiss– the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue between 43rd and 44th.
The Kiss-In, sponsored by Maybelline and with a special appearance by Dancing with the Stars’ Maksim Chmerkovskiy, will be equal parts fun and history. The morning portion of the event will include live music from the era and a chance to meet veterans--could be a great history lesson for the kids. The first 250 “kissers” to arrive will receive complimentary sailor’s caps or roses. Also at stake, the couple deemed “Most Symbolic” or “Best Themed” of the day have chance to win some big prizes.
