Read Across America Free Event
This week Target and a handful of celebrities, including NYC moms Uma Thurman and NY dad Mark Ruffalo, unveiled a 26-ft tall by 40-ft wide READ installation, on the steps of the New York Public Library in celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday.
A total of 25,000 Dr. Seuss books were used to construct the outdoor installation, and an indoor scenic archway for the reading event. Inside the library, celebrities read their favorite Dr. Seuss books, and after the event all of the 25,000 books were donated to New York public schools.
This event kicked off Target's Read Across American initiative, in which Target stores across the nation will host reading events for guests on Feb. 26. Read Across America is part of the retailer's commitment to literacy and helping more children read proficiently, and goal of donating more than $500 million to education over five years.
