5 Creative Ways to Drink Your Wine

Creative Ways to Drink Wine

Thought Valentine’s Day was the only beloved holiday this week? Think again! Saturday is National Drink Wine Day (wait, isn’t that every day?!)—and we might be even more excited about this celebratory occasion.

It’s no secret that the ladies of Momtrends love us some vino. Red, white, or sparkling, we’re about full glasses, healthy (happy) hearts, and a little liquid me-time reward at the end of a long, hard day of parenting.

I’m a Cabernet girl myself—especially in the winter months. The richer and more full bodied, the better. And while I have a few phenomenal special-occasion faves, I can’t really justify the spend for National Drink Wine Day. Fortunately, I have a few go-to bottles in the $10 to $20 range (like this delicious bad boy and THIS red-hot lover, as well).

I don’t feel guilty experimenting with my wine—and incorporating them into cocktails or recipes—if I’m not spending a lot of money. So I have a few creative and delightful ideas to help you celebrate National Drink Wine Day—besides sipping right out of the bottle (which is totally respectable too). Cheers, and happy toasting.

red wine hot chocolate

Red Wine-Infused Hot Chocolate
Baby, it' cold outside! Fight the frigid temps and warm your soul with this delicious combo: hot chocolate + wine. This recipe and photo via The Kitchn is all sorts of sinful--just the way we like it!

wine slushies

Blend Up a Wine Slushie
Ice + wine + a blender = a frozen treat for Mama. A little added fruit and you have a tropical-inspired drink worthy of a luxury seaside resort. Don't feel like getting the blender out but still want to sweeten up that tart white or add a fruity flavor to your bold red? Sweeten, chill, and drink your wine simultaneously by adding some frozen berries or fruit to the bottom of your glass. It's like the tootsie roll surprise at the center of a lollipop! But, you know, the grownup version!

Red-Wine and Soda
We generally try to avoid pop and cola as a rule, but an occasional glass can be considered an especially rare treat--and when you combine Coca-Cola with wine, well, it's even more of a "delicacy." Ha. Meet the Kalimotmxo cocktail.

orange wine spritzer

Spritz It Up
Equal parts wine (sauvignon blanc) and (flavored) sparkling water go hand-in-hand. While a white wine spritzer is generally, is considered a refreshing summer drink (preferably poolside), we'll make an exception for National Drink Wine Day. Or try this blueberry wine spritzer recipe!

Stick a Pop in It
If you prefer your wine with bubbles, may we suggest upping the ante on your Saturday festivities by putting a Popsicle in it? It's like dessert! If you're feeling especially ambitious, you can combine the two and make wine pops--we'll take one rosé-sicle, please!
