For this week's Monday Mingle, we're talking about mixing prints. Let's take the concept slow. Because you don't want to jump into this trend cold. Not everyone is ready to mix it up ala Tory Burch read her instructions on mixing prints here (love you Tory!) on the first try:
So my advice is to start by layering in printed accessories. I combined a stripe shoe and a basketweave dress. By adding the striped shoe, the otherwise classic an proper dress gets a little edgy, fresh and fun.
When you feel like this is too easy of a fashion challenge, then it's time to take on Tory and mix up layers on top.
Talbots sent me this dress a while ago and it's become a travel favorite. Diane Von Furstenberg made this style so popular in the 70s. I don't think the wrap will over truly be out. Flattering to all (you just have to pick the right color and print) a wrap belongs in every closet. I took it to a wedding shower in DC and it was a smash hit. All you have to do when you get it out of the suitcase is give it a quick shake and viola! wrinkle-free (good thing since I cannot iron). I added a striped open-toe pump I had from J.Crew (here's a fun beaded heel I also love from J. Crew).

I also wanted to add a necklace, but I wasn't happy when I layered silver chains on top. So I grabbed this chunky geometric Coldwater Creek green DECO necklace. I liked the way everything popped. I didn't even know Coldwater Creek made jewelry. Again, this was something that was sent to me unsolicited. It sat in the "IN" pile for a while before inspiration struck. Which just goes to show...never throw out accessories. They don't take up much space and can really elevate your look.
