Our family has a very unusual back yard. It happens to overlook the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge Park is my backyard. As you can see from these photos, we're a city family. When we want to put our toes in grass for cartwheels or picnics we have to head to a park.

Unlike a house and yard, there's no one "owner" of the park. We all own it. Without parkland this city would be unlivable. For Earth Day, the kids' school heads to the park to plant trees and clean up. The kids all dress for work and absolutely love the day.

But one day alone won't cut it. The park also relies on families like ours to be stewards of the land year round. They call it the Green Team. The team consists of volunteers who keep Brooklyn Bridge Park healthy and beautiful. Projects include trash pickup, planting, mulching and weeding. And the best part is that kids can join in. The Green Team meets every Saturday, during the "gardening months" of the year.

Lands End Spring Style

Since we're talking about celebrating the Earth, I thought I'd share a few green facts about a brand I love. Did you know Lands' End offers its employees bikes to travel between buildings on the Dodgeville campus. The bike program encourages Lands' End employees not to use cars, thereby reducing gasoline consumption and related pollution. I think these bikes would look great with the new Supima Striped Sweater--the perfect thing for sporty style.

Lands End Rain Coat

We all know about the three "R's" reduce/recycle/reuse. Shopping smart fits in. You know when you buy Lands' End quality it will last for seasons. Be sure to get the spring catalog so you don't miss out on this Lightweight Packable Raincoat. It's the perfect coat for getting out and exploring nature and it's so well constructed you won't have to replace it for years.

Lands End Sandals

I can't stand wasteful packaging. Did you know these amazing Slide Sandals shipped in a corrugated shipping box that contains an average of 60% recycled fiber!

Lands End Botanic Tote

Did you know Lands' End has a campus garden & orchard at each of its Wisconsin campuses.? Plots of various sizes are available for employees and their families to grow vegetables and flowers for personal use and to donate. Maybe they were the inspiration for this cheerful Botanical Canvas Shopper.

I can feel good shopping Lands' End because their team is putting energy and effort into thinking green. Click here to find out more about Lands' End sustainability practices.
