I know I always feel better after a trip to the beach. Now a new alternative therapy is available in NYC. Halo/Air Salt Rooms offer a little haven from pollutions and allergens that attack us every day in the Big Apple.
HaloAir just opened their first swank "salt room" in Chelsea. The room is built from Ukainian salt mined from 300 meters below ground. As the team at Halo explained it, they grind the salt into tiny particles and then filter it into special rooms. The salt therapy is meant to clear airways and revive the skin.
Moms with kids with allergies take note: This therapy is supposed to help. I took my 2 y.o. (egg allergy and eczema) to test it out. She loved her 30 minute session--it was like a big white sand pit. She happily played with the toys as I hung out taking deep cleansing breaths. When I met with one of the founders, he said the recommended treatment is 10-14 times a year. $100 for a 60 minutes or opt for the into package: $250 for four, 60-minute sessions.
All in it was a fun excursion. The rooms were extremely clean. Both of us slept well after the session and I must say my nasal passages felt great. Give it a whirl! And moms take note--you can go without the kids for a rejuvenating adult session in a room that's spa-like and free of toys.
