All carbohydrates are not created equal. A slice of white bread is very different than a slice of whole-grain bread and the same can be said for a bowl of sugary cereal as compared to a bowl of oatmeal topped with fresh berries. With the thousands (if not more), diets out there it can be confusing to understand the very basics about food, weight and health. Some healthy foods and really not, while some not-so-healthy foods, like carbs, are actually needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. A new book, The CarbLovers Diet Cookbook, is proposing that everyone can enjoy food like Honey-Glazed Roasted Root Vegetables or a Tuna and White Bean Crustino or even a sliver of Banana Cream Pie and lose weight without deprivation.
Following the popular New York Times best-selling book, The CarbLovers Diet, authors Ellen Kunes and Frances Largeman-Roth, RD have created a stunning cookbook featuring 150 easy, delicious, and carb-friendly dishes, a new RD-approved diet plan that will help carb-lovers lose up to six pounds in seven days, or 12 pounds in a month. The book is broken down into three parts - cooking, recipes, and a diet plan - where readers can learn "how carbs make you thin...for life." This book discusses the science behind weight and how carbs (not the refined ones and those loaded with sugar) are actually packed with fiber, antioxidants and starches that keep you feeling full and satisfied. This includes a CarbLovers 101 guide that provides readers with everything from pantry staples (legumes, oatmeal, beans and pasta) to what tools you need to get cooking.
I loved the recipe section that is filled with delicious options for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. As a big fan of Breakfast food, I gravitated towards this section and its yummy recipes like Egg Benedict Florentine, Granola with Pecans, Pumpkin Seeds and Dried Mango, Asparagus and Mushroom and Tomato Frittata. I made the Oat and Honey Pancakes with Strawberry Syrup with my daughter and I loved the combination of oatmeal, whole-wheat flour and fresh strawberry syrup. I was also inspired by the Smoothies - Berry-Kale Smoothie and a Peanut Butter Banana Blast - and the Soups and Salads section that included a French Onion Soup, Butternut Squash Soup and a Black Bean Avocado, Brown Rice and Chicken Wrap. The book also contains some carb-friendly desserts that are indulgent but also healthy like Icy, Refreshing Granitas, Pavolva with Fresh Strawberries and Oatmeal-Date Cookies.
The book also includes a fun section with CarbLover-approved dishes from top celebrity chefs. The expert-approved cookbook features diet-friendly recipes from celebrity chefs like Wolfgang Puck, Cat Cora, Guy Fieri, Gail Simmons, Joe Bastianich, Carla Hall, Donatella Arpaia, and Michael Chiarello. This includes recipes like Carla Hall's Quick Chicken Mole, Gail Simmons's Individual Spinach and Mushroom Pizzas with Whole Wheat Crust, and Guy Fieri's Spinach-Tomato Pasta Shells.
In addition to the recipes, the book also includes a 21-day kick start meal plan to help dieters "stick to a pattern to maintain energy and keep hunger at bay."
Whether you want to eat healthy or lose a few pounds, the CarbLovers Diet provides you with the tools, resources and recipes to enjoy food, stay full - without feeling deprived.
